If WotC publishes more adventures....

You know, since WotC has prevented a bunch of cool monsters from being in the SRD, it would be really nice if they'd do something with them. So, I'm all for a module based on yuan-ti, with beholders, and mind flayers, and, um, githyanki.

Well, three of those four are aberrations and the book about aberrations comes out next year so....

I have to disagree with almost everything Vrecknidj said,

1>don't just use the core books. most of the customers who are buying WOTC modules have most of the other WOTC books. let's use them. Plus, a little marketing never hurt anyone. My players use the other books, why not let the bad guys use them too without me having to do all the work.

2> errata and web enhancements are always welcome. sure, we all like to think that if you take the time a product will be perfect, but that NEVER happens. Errata fixes it. It doesn't mean that they're purposely sloppy.
And web enhancements? extra stuff for free for us. and wizards gets people to go their website and see their other products. everyone wins.

3> too many new monsters in the 3e adventures? what? I think there was one per module. and then cool twists on monsters like the tombstone golem. I agree that the mooncalf was ridiculous, and just replaced him with another monster, but to use that as an exuse to not have new monsters is silly. Every module should have at least one new monster, spell, magic item, etc.

Ed Cha: Wizards of the Coast giving free adventures might hurt YOUR business, but the free adventures get people to go to their site, which spurs sales for them. And sure, some/most of freebies suck, but so do some/most of the paid-for adventures too. I'm not an expert DM, but there's very few modules I would run as is.

But what would I like?

I don't want a mega-adventure, but I would love a continuing series of adventures. The 3e adventures occasionally dropped references to Ashardalon or Durgeddin, but it could have been so much better if they put any planning or forethought into it. Also, with all of them having different writers, I think there was an Elder Fire Elemental three adventures in a row. Thats inexcusable.

I DO want a mostly (not completely) dungeon crawl, with NUMEROUS VALID plot hooks to get even the most jaded player inside. (unlike, say, forge of fury, which had 0 in the way of plot hooks)
AND a wilderness based adventure
AND a city based social intrigue/political adventure
AND a comedy/odd ball adventure
AND a couple of adventures where the plot threads lead to a mix and match of different sites.
all rolled into one long adventure path.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

It would be written by Skip Williams.

It would be crappy.

No. No. No.

Please, WotC, no.

Well, the name was from H.G. Wells' The First Men in the Moon. The moon-calves were large beasts the Selenites ate...

And this has been your Victorian sci-fi literature moment of the day.

Indeed! But the description is more like something from Gods of Pegana (sp?).

This will, of course, spur many d20 companies to publish more adventures. *grin*

So they can compete against WoTC head on? That doesn't sound too keen as WoTC will usually beat them on price and production values 99% of the time. Doesn't mean people won't want them or look at them, but even on these enlightened boards, I see the logo, "All WoTC... All the Time..."

One thing I've mentioned before is that WoTC should keep their older modules in print but updated with 3.5 rules and updated so that creatures that have changed dramatically, don't wind up in inappropriate levels.

White Plume Mountain would be a great addition to the 3.5 library of events.

Heck, I'd like to see some notes on how it ran, how it worked at conventions, some GMing tips culled from decades of playtesting, etc...

Actually, there are three decent plot hooks, which can easily be combined just in case one doesn't pull it for them. For example, orcs have been pillaging farmsteads and camps in the hills north of town but so far no one has been able to figure out where they're hiding out. A ranger returns to town after having waylaid a lone orc scout. The orc bore a fine blade. A local sage identifies the forger's mark on the blade as that of the legendary smith Durgeddin, and in his research digs up a map showing the location of the hidden dwarf hold. Baron Althon, the local ruler offers a bounty for orcs slain and offers a bonus of 500 GP above market value on any Durgeddin blades returned to him.

Finally, if you have a dwarf in your party, it's easy to add in a personal angle. In my game, my friend's dwarf is from Durgeddin's clan, which had been taking refuge at another clanhold ever since they were chased out of Khundrukar. Retaking his ancestral hold is a driving goal for him.

More on topic, I'd like to see more site based adventures. I haven't read Whispers of the Vampire's Blade yet, but Shadows of the Last War was too linear. That's not to say that I only want dungeon crawls, on the contrary, I'd love to see more urban and wilderness modules. But in order for them to work, they should be focused on a fairly tight area (like Necromancer Games' The Grey Citadel) rather than being a grand tour of a campaign world. The latter will almost always be a railroad as you lead the players from one site to another.

Yeah they could do these as pdf's or complete reprints with all the updates. I know I'd love 3.5 versions of Slavers, Dragon Mountain, Night Below & X8 Drums on Fire Mountain. I just don't have the time to convert them myself.
