oh boy this is gonna take a while:

ANY single game I could run at this moment (if I had to choose only one) -

Fireborn

ANY game I could run at this moment (in addition to Fireborn) -

Vampre: the Requiem
Werewolf: the Forsaken (comes out in Feb near my bday :) )
Kythika powered by GURPS 4e (homebrew world...still a work in progress)
Blue Rose
Mutants and Masterminds
Star Wars (using my very own generic classes I made)

HERO System

ANY single game I could choose to play in (if I had to choose only one) -

Exalted

ANY game I could play in (in addition to Exalted) -

All of the above plus...
Shadowrun
Paranoia
D&D3.x (the best imposter of the C&C game of them all) ;)
forgot about these great games...
Black Company
Conan
Midnight (I would love to play these three games with DMs who can get the feel of the world across)

edit: added Black Company, Conan and Midnight.

Play: OD&D with Diaglo, Forgotten Realms (or better yet Greyhawk) with Olgar, Plus some other homebrew campaigns I hear about on these boards.
Like howandwhy99, I am privileged to be tolerated as a player by both dialo and Olgar Shiverstone. This has led me to the conclusion that it is the DM, and the players, that make the game. The setting is secondary.

I like 3.5 far better than I do OD&D, and indeed never even considered playing in an OD&D campaign until I saw diaglo's enthusiasm. I knew that he would pour his heart and soul into the game, and that regardless of the rules and setting it would be fun. I was right.

Similarly, while I resect the detail and many aspects of the Forgotten Realms, it is far from my favorite setting. But FR a la Olgar is a great game. Both diaglo and Olgar love what they are doing, and are dedicated and well-prepared. Neither comes anywhere close to railroading, but instead give the players freedom to do as they please. Many sessions I am surprised to hear afterwards that the DM had no idea of the directions we would take. I certainly can't tell during the game.

Sorry, I'm rambling and getting off topic.

Play: Any setting that is loved by a DM who puts in the time to know the setting and prepare, as the DM will make the game great.

Run: I'm getting to know Oathbound, and am excited about what I see so far. Same goes for Eberron. With both settings I am far from being the knowledgeable, well-prepared DM that I know makes for a good game, but hopefully I will get there eventually. I better, because I plan to send my own players to Oathbound soon.

Baloney! That was one of the best posts ever, and you are absolutely correct, the players and DM make the game, not the rules or setting.

You get a gold star, or a cookie. Your choice. :D

I'd like to run, using D&D 3.x (with many house rules and added flavor rules from other books):

The 50 Buried Treasures of the Pirate Lord Carcasse

Beginning: The characters are pulled together by an old dying friend, who gives them the only remaining map of the 50 Buried Treasures of the Pirate Lord Carcasse, spread across the sea on various islands and in various ports. The characters must work their way on many ships voyaging to these strange islands, where hyjinx insue with the native inhabitants, feral monsters, and ingenious traps set up by the Pirate Lord Carcasse himself.

Middle: Soon enough, the characters come upon other adventurering groups, each with their own "only remaining" map of the 50 Buried Treasures of the Pirate Lord Carcasse. Suspicion, alliances, and rivalries abound as the adventurers race after each treasure.

End: Finally, the truth is revealed: the "dying old men" that each adventuring group got their maps from are a guild of immortal wizards. Only thing is that immortality isn't all that it's cracked up to be- in fact, it's boring! So they've created this entire "Pirate Lord Carcasse" legend in order to entertain themselves, sort of like Rat Race. How will the adventurers get their revenge on the guild of nigh-omnipotent geezers?

Run: Nothing. I'm too lazy to DM, and I'm not good enough to pull it all out of my posterior.

Play: Well...

D&D: An over-the-top, Epic, Gestalt game. Don't care about the setting, just want to do Uber-Kewl stuff and not have the campaign die on me after three sessions. I crave power, and I will not be denied!

Non-D&D that I've played before: Shadowrun. I spent my Friday nights freshman year of college getting killed every other session, and I loved it.

Non-D&D that I haven't played: Exalted. Like the above, I want to hack my way through tons of extras to get to their traitorous Dragon-blood commanders.

G.I. Joe: d20 Modern style. (I call Snake-Eyes!)

I get Storm Shadow! Beat THAT!

I'm *so* surprised that WotC hasn't gotten Hasbro to let them have a d20 Modern setting for G.I. Joe.

Run:
  • Eberron (already doing that...)
  • Iron Kingdoms
  • A mish/mash low-magic, grim homebrew setting utilizing the following options: Grim Tales, Sanity
  • Dark Sun
  • Planescape
  • Call of Cthulhu
  • A spy-type d20 Modern campaign
  • A Game of Thrones game
  • A Malazan Book of the Fallen Game

Play in:
  • Eberron
  • Iron Kingdoms
  • Midnight
  • FR
  • Barsoomcore's Homebrew World
  • Joshua Dyal's Dark Heritage World
  • Greyhawk
  • Planescape
  • Dark Sun
  • Call of Cthulhu
  • A d20 Modern campaign incorporating... well, ANYTHING. Hopefully giant robots, ninjas, and big guns will be involved...
  • A Game of Thrones game
  • A Malazan Book of the Fallen Game

What I will never, EVER play. Ever.
  • SpellJammer

Basically, with a good enough DM, I'll play pretty much anything. I can do the high-magic FR gaming (in fact, some of my favorite characters I played in FR...) and I could easily do the low-magic grim, hopeless world too.

For playing, I'd like to do a Midnight, Ravenloft, or Eberron campaign. For running, I'd like to do a homebrew Scandinavian, Midnight, Masque of the Red Death, or Dragonlance.
