If you love 3.5 so much....go DM it!

just a point, as I see so many folk who complain about 4th ed, are only *players*, not DMs.

I preffer 4th ed, play whatever version you like, no worries to me :)
But, do not moan and complain without realizing how unpleasant DMing in 3.5 was for many folk! Jeesh.

3.5 ed was no fun, as far as I was concerned, doing combat encounters or having to spend hours making NPCs, ick!
Waaaay too many hassles, unecessary complexity, too many rolls etc.
Stealth vs Perception in 4th ed is wonderful, how it should be, 2 rolls, not 4 rolls as in 3.5!

You want to know a delicious irony? 3.5 is best played on a COMPUTER, where the CPU has the odious task of doing all the rolls, not me, the DM, who's just wanting to have fun.
I'm Human for goodness sake, WTH should I be forced to do all the saves, opposed rolls, all the concentration checks etc. I want to Roleplay, not Rollplay, you know :/ DMing is not a paid job, we do it for fun, too many seem to have forgotten that.

Thus, saying "4th ed = Computer Game!" is irony indeed :p

I don't have that much trouble DMing 3.X - but then, I do my best to optimise the task (Link in my sig).

I have a theory that a lot of the people (not all) resistant to 4th Ed are players, who are bummed out that they might no be able to get away with their campaign/encounter ruining shenanigans they have enjoyed all these years.

The arms race crap of 3rd Ed made me become disillusioned with DMing 3rd Ed, still had a blast, but I will never DM 3rd Ed again, but I am thinking of starting up a Basic or 1st/2nd Ed campaign (first time in 14 years) to run alongside my 4th Ed.

For me, 2E and its abominations called "Bladesigner" and "Psionics" will always personify the arm's race.

All I need to handle DMing 3E is to make it clear that nothing, not even the core PHB feats, is allowed by default unless the DM approves it.

You couldn't pay me to DM 3rd edition.

Well... okay. I'm not that wealthy. I do have a price for the time and frustration it would require.

But I'll run 2nd for you any time you want. For free.

I DM multiple 3.5 games, and it is not such a big deal. Some parts do not work, but I do not buy into all the complaints about prep time and such.

:D

The complexity of 4E has yet to even begin. Wait for it.

The best thing about the OP's post is that all it takes is for one person to enjoy DMing for 3e and EVERY THING HE SAID is made irrelevant.

Also, I enjoy DMing for 3.x.

THREAD OVER!

I've found your theory to generally be the complete opposite of what I've experienced. Many of the pro-4e folks I've seen have been players that don't care that world building and the toolkit have both ben drastically reduced, because to them, a game is a game. It's the DMs that enjoy DMing that so "Now wait one minute" when they find that it's now up to them to fiat 99% of the game.

'Interesting' theories, particularly as most of those actually posting about their intentions to *not do 4e*, and instead use other systems, are in fact DMs. :p You can tell, because they're talking about what they're going to *run*, not just play. ;)

In fact, IIRC, the majority of posters on EN World are in fact DMs, of whatever system(s). So, regarding the OP. . . just no. :)
