D&D 5E If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

Why would someone Ready a teleport (or teleport-like) spell to avoid damage? If they are not attacked, the spell slot is wasted.

Also, @Maxperson one can't move and attack as a Readied action. Read the rules on Ready again - there's specifically an 'or' in there.

Finally, enough with the "punishing the player" nonsense. I don't see anyone proposing the ruling as a "gotcha!". As long as the player is made aware of the stakes involved with their action, they can choose well enough what they want their PC to do. Remain in the blast radius? Take damage from the spell. Teleport beyond the blast radius? No damage from the spell. Want to rule this differently at your table? Sure, why not.

Prove that's the intent is what you say it is and that the intent was not to cause a thunderclap from the vacuum left by the caster. Or that the intent was not just to determine the location of the thunderclap.
Prove the intent is to make the players suffer for not using the teleport at full power.

This doesn't change the point. I could still casually stroll 30 feet away taking 6 seconds to do so, while the rest of the instant teleport(thunder damage and reappearance) waits for me to finish.

Why would I prove something that isn't a part of anything ANYONE(other than you) in this thread has posted?
Then what it s the actual point of torturing the spell into exploding the caster for not 'porting far enough if not just to be a pain to them?

Explain the value in your interpretation.

Presumably because they expect overwhelming damage from some attack or environmental effect. Personally I don’t want to have “brief immunity to everything” as an effect of every teleportation spell, nor I believe such is intended.

No. We've all explained it repeatedly. If you really want to know, go back and look.

We're talking about one specific teleport spell the protect you from itself only.

No. I don't think I will. Because no where in that avalanche of words and RAW-cruft is there any argument of value besides 'you're abusing this spell by using it t a lower power', which makes no sense and 'It makes the spell more situational' which again, makes no sense.
