Hold the phone - I've never heard that multiple pearls of power of the same level stack... is this true?
I don't see what stops them from working together. After all, its not like they provide a bonus spell slot, they basically just cast a modified Mordenkainen's Lucubration on you once a day on command, so why wouldn't you be able to use multiple pearls?

If you are a wizard with a guaranteed 25hp per round, you are much better off than taking random damage rolls.

In addition the party fighters should be dishing out damage as well. Your 25 will make a difference.

If you really want to get technical, use Quicken Spell for 2 magic missles, total 50 guaranteed.

Examine high damage spells like Fireball ... 10d6 ... average is 30 ... maximum 50. Now this assumes that you can place the spell without injuring friends and family, and then you roll high. In addition don't forget the possibility of Resistance to fire.

Magic missle being elementless has an advantage. Of course there may be better spells, sonic ones perhaps ... my point was guaranteed repeatable damage.

As for pearls of power ... they are a magic item that allows you to recall a cast spell. If I had 10 pearls of 1st level, I could use each one to get a spell back once per day. There is nothing against this by the rules.

The problem is that it takes an action to use the pearls, so you would have to prepare many magic missiles, when those slots would normally be taken up by utility spells. After battle, you could regain all of your magic missiles, but doing 25/2 rounds is much weaker than Fireball. Also, fireball is an AoE spell, so it could theoretically deal many times the damage of magic missile.

200,000 is way more than a 12th-level wizard should have in wealth by the RAW. Reminds me of the old Monty Haul days of a youth spent with Valkyrie mistresses, world-shattering magic items on 7th-level characters, and personal castles for all.

It's a concept, of course there are counters and arguments to every concept. But instead of doing the same old thing, I suggested something different.

As for the standard action use, the main concept is to be able to repeat the barrage of consistent damage so you would use pearls after combat.

The concept can be mimicked with other spell levels of course, so you could do it with the Fireball as well. It's a matter of taste, choice, and money.

Magic Missile I like because its essentially a guaranteed hit. Barring a shield spell and magic items based on the shield spell, there is not much that stops it.

If you want other spells, use them ... magic missile is just an example.

Another thing you can do (weird as but doable) is to get as many metamagic feats as possible that modify a spell level by 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (highest spell for 12th is 5th level) and just memorise magic missles, for every spell slot, modifed by metamagic. Of course you can memorise less than this ... just a concept.

Then you just continuously unload magic missles, using pearls of power to keep yourself going.

If you wanted something different, use fireball, lightning bolt, ice storm, cone of cold, what have you. I chose magic missle because pearls of power for 1st level cost only 1000gp.

I dont think any one out there playing in a 12th now 13th level campaign could say 200,000 for total character is over priced. This covers magics, magic tattos, potions, everything even non magical belongings property, cash, whatever. A keep by itself is worth this if not more. 3 wands a rod and a couple of rings done! no no this is, in my opinion not over kill nor monte hall...you add up what a pc of this level has and its almost surely going to be worth 200,000.

ps: We play in a low magic campaign sometimes and things get expensive there, the pc's would be worth probably 100,000 easy.

Victim: sure then instead of damaging spells, use charm/enchantment powered by extend, and specialisation to up the DC. That idea would use the barrage of spells concept but to keep mind controlling everything the party comes across. In fact that would be more powerful than straight damage, and with judicous use of tongues you can get as much info about the areas as possible.
