"I'll never get to play XYZ": your biggest regrets?

EricNoah

Adventurer
I regret that I probably will never get to run the Dungeon adventure path. I'll probably never get to run Tomb of Abysthor. I probably will never get to play in a game of D20 Future. As time goes by and gaming time is at a premium, I start to realize that there's stuff I probably will never get around to doing. You?

So certain are you; always with you what cannot be done

Just out of curiosity, how are you so certain you'll never do those things?

I try to squeeze in as much as I can. I finally got to play some T20, it finally looks like my river of worlds game is going to happen.

I hope to get around to playing some Spycraft and Blood & Fist d20 modern someday soon.

Hey Eric,

Yeah, I hear ya. Fortunately, I got to play, at least once, all the games I wanted to play. However, there are games I wanted to get a small campaign out of (or at least a few more games).

I played/GM'd a few Call of Cthulhu games in the past (it's my best game as a GM), and I used to look forward to DunDraCon every year, as it's the only chance I get to play a game of TOON. They have something in common: whenever I try to get a game together for these two games, people either run for the hills (in the case of CoC) or look at me funny and pooh-pooh the idea (in the case of TOON).

EDIT: Hey guys! Behind ME! Not cutting! I was here first!

Ok, ok, -- let's just say it seems unlikely.

I'm running or playing in campaigns that meet about once a month; in two of my groups we're still on our first campaign since 3E came out (PCs are 11th level in one and 19th level in another). In another we got through one campaign and started an AU campaign about a year ago and the PCs are just now 4th level. I am in an Eberron campaign, thank goodness -- that might have ended up on my list up there! It just takes a long time to get through things when you meet about once a month for about 4-5 hours at a time.

There have been times when I wished I could stop DMing my current campaign and just do a bunch of one-shots or mini campaigns. But my guys won't go for that -- the thing that keeps them coming back is seeing their characters improve. Playing someone new every time doesn't have the same appeal.

Wow. What a depressing thought.

I try and do games like these at cons so I can at least try them. Fortunately I belong to a group that switches around and tried new games on Wednesday nights. We'll play one game for a few weeks and then switch. Admitedly they are reluctant to try some radical new things (though I am getting them to experiment with Unknown Armies this Wednesday).

But I think I see what you mean - I doubt I will get much of a chance to try d20 Future or Silver Age Sentinels, as well as a host of other games that really only interest me (out of my gaming group) unless I fight my way into playing them at a con.

I know exactly what you mean. I'd love to play or GM a four-color superhero game. In fact, that's about the only thing I really want to play or GM in. But that'll never happen because of the current group of players only one other guy reads comics and can RP in a four-color world. The others have never been comics readers.

Same with a lot of the other games I'd like to do.

Not playing in Rappan Athuk (though I hope that may happen sometime)
Not playing in a Wilderlands campaign (unlikely for the near future unless I change groups).
