The next time one of those pro-piracy losers start spouting "They wouldn't have bought it anyway", or "People download it just to see if they want to buy the product or not", we need to point that loser to this thread...

Heh, I really think this depends on: the item being sold/pirated and, interestingly enough, local economics.

I live in a third-world country and movies, music, & playstation2 games are pirated all the time. I've only ever seen one video store with original DVDs and they actually market themselves that way. I'm not a fan of piracy, by any means, but I recognize that people here would not have access to movies, music, or PS2 games were it not for piracy. They can afford the $3 or $4 that the pirates charge... they cannot afford $55+ (steep import tariffs) on a new movie, $33+ on a new CD, or $75+ for a new PS2 game. Household incomes (as in mom, dad, +1 child working) average around $400 monthly here (-150 rent, -15 utilities, -200 basic foodstuffs, -50 transportation).

So yeah, while I certainly don't support piracy, I can understand it in certain situations. And for most of the people I know that buy pirated stuff... they weren't going to buy the original anyway.

Hey, one of the reasons that it really sucks to have a Paypal account is because they spasmodically overreact when someone reports an illegal use of your account. I know lots of people who've had thier accounts closed (and balances retained) by Paypal.

You might try contacting Paypal directly as the seller states that he/she prefers PayPal. :)

Hi officer. Did I steal those lovely new DVD players in the back of my car? Why, I sure did. But it's okay, I wasn't going to buy them anyway.

Apparently not, since they did purchase it. Let's be serious and just say peolpe are some cheap mutha-F@&%$ and if they could pay $3 buck for something that sales for $30 they would. People don't care about the comapnies and there problems, like pirated copies reduce sale amount, causign the spiraling end effect of putting people out of work due to this. People care about themselves.

Hell I can think of a half a dozen people I know that got a copy of the Star Wars: Revenge of the SIth DVD and day before it hit the threaters.

Heh, you missed the point. I'm not defending the pirates, I'm simply stating that the reasons that a person could have for purchasing a pirated copy of something may, in fact, be legitimate.

Yeah, it sucks. But the burgoise and the proletariat (man, did I butcher those spellings or what?) are always going to have a differing outlook. In my experience the Poor generally say: "Why won't you help me? You have money, give some to me." While the Rich say: "I worked hard to get where I am today. Why should I give you anything?"

And yes, there are simply people who can afford a product, but won't purchase said product if a cheaper alternative exists. Piracy hurts the publisher/author only in this circumstance. The big question is, of all the people who purchase pirated products, how many fit into this catagory?

This all looks illigal to me. Even if he owns the book he has first illigally copied or gained copies of most of this materials. Even if you own the original it is against copyright laws to sell copies of anything. I'm pretty sure that once WOTC takes note they will shut this auction down. The blatency of this guy is what is absurd. I won't lie, I have a number of pdfs on my computer (nothing non WOTC produced) , some I own and some I don't but I"d never buy or sell them.
