I'm going to Medieval Times

First Post
Next month, I'm going to Medieval Times (Myrtle Beach, SC) for dinner and a show. I've never been, and I only know the basic concept of the place, and what the Web site shows.

Any of you been to MT? What should I do there? Not do? See? Avoid?

I've driven by the one outside Chicago for almost two years. Never been in though.

All I know is what I saw on "The Cable Guy." :D

I don't think they let you use utensils. So, wash your hands really good!

Hi!

Djeta and I just went to the one in Orlando last week on our trip to DisneyWorld.

I thought it was really cool. No, they don't give you utensils, and they served a turkey leg, choice of beef or shrimp, spiced potato (very good!), and some sort of apple dessert.

Now, the beverage choice was somewhat limited...beer or pepsi (no diet either).

The show was excellent. My only complaint was that they kept coming buy to sell you pictures (they take your picture when you first enter), and sometimes they inturrupt the show (we missed one of the jousts cause they were standing in front of us trying the upsell).

All in all, I really liked it, and will likely go back next time we're down there.

They're great. Enjoy the atmosphere, and enjoy the food--although it's REALLY overpriced for a meal, it tastes pretty good and you get a heck of a show, with it.

I can't think of anything I'd tell you to avoid...maybe just to resist the temptation to buy a sword while you're there. They all sell them, and they're really not terribly high-quality. You can get similar quality for quite a bit less on the net.

I went to the one in Toronto, Ontario about a year and a half ago. It was a ton of fun. Seats were assigned on a first come, first serve basis so you might want to get there a little early to get a seat in the first couple of rows. There are no bad seats, but closer is better. One warning if any of your party are a bit fussy about eating: the meal is served in period style, which means no cutlery by default. Ask your server for cutlery ahead of time if you don't want to eat with your fingers.

The merchandise was a bit overpriced, as I recall. They did have some vendors selling swords, armour, etc. so if you're interested in that sort of thing you might want to bring the gold card. There was also a riddle-quest attraction after the show, I wouldn't recommend that unless you have a group, and not even then if anybody has any physical limitations (due to age or whatever).

The show itself is fantastic, it's worth the price of admission by itself.

the bad thing is our ancestors had spoons, knifes and forks. But the reasons some don't now exist is the material used. Wood burns decays, metal gets reused or rusts away.

I went to the one in LA when I was 8 (1986), and it was spectacularly cool.

But, you know, when I was 8 Buck Rogers was spectacularly cool too, so I can't guarantee the usefulness of that review.

I'd love to go back some day, though.

I've been to the one near Chicago, and it was okay. The jousts were neat, the food tasted pretty good, but all in all I thought it cost too much for the whole experience--I won't be doing it again.

If someone doesn't mind saying, how much was it? One of my friends (who ENWorlders in the past agreed was quite hot :p ) and one of my gf's friends are going to be down near Orlando, so we figured we'd go down there for a week or so visiting, and it would be cool to check this out, IMO. Someone mentioned there's one near Chicago too? That one might actually be possible too, the gf is from Illinois.
