For a change of pace, and a more personal connection to the divine powers, the Ancestors make excellent deities.
That is interesting. Kinda of like Eddings' Belgariad, where each nation had similar ancestors that had a specific god as a patron. You aren't limited to that god, but most of the countries' inhabitants had similar behaviors and outlooks.
That also motivates interesting paragon paths (like an Arcane Ancestor class) and feats (Strong Blood [Specific patron]: You gain a bonus to something your patron ancestor was good at.). In fact, you could steal some of the House stuff from Eberron...
