I second that, at least for permanent stuff like the extra points you get every 4 levels, inherent bonuses from wish spells or its derivatives (manual/tome of whatever it is), and templates.

It leads to too much of a hassle if you ever have to recount the skill points, and some weird anomalies (if you play a drow with the drow monster class and get the +2 int later on, you'll have a couple of skill points less than a normal drow who started with LA +2 and all powers)

So do you go in reverse as well, permanent INT drain resulting in lost ranks in class skills?

I find it easier to follow the RAW. Sure it takes a bit more time when building characters from scratch but..for NPCs the exact skill points don't always matter {and I often don't even flesh it out}, and for ones that do, there is E-Tools :)

Drain? No. Because it's not really permanent, since it can be removed with a spell.

But if a PC somehow acquired a template which cost him -2 Int, or voluntarily underwent a ritual that did the same thing, yes, I'd take one of his skills. "I feel dumb... my god, I can't remember my dog! Or how to swim!" :eek:

Also, after leveling up, I always go back and make sure I have the correct number of skill points spent. It's a pain keeping track of when the stat changed to ensure I took the right number and not too many or too few.

The math is easier for me if I am calculating based on the one stat modifer, not multiples.
