I dunno. How is replacing one CRT with another one all that much of an improvement? It isn't like most of the internet's content is any better than television.

I suppose it has something to do with the interactive nature of the internet as opposed to the passive entertainment nature of television. As to content, it's hit or miss no matter where you are in regards to television, films, the internet, books, idle conversation with peers, college lecture circuit, symphony, theatre, etc. Availablitity of variety doesn't ensure wise choices.

In my little hierarchy of mental activites, watching/listening ranks "lower" than reading and especially writing -- two things I do a lot when on the intraweb.

Me too but that is because there is a lot less on TV to watch! Or that appeals to me. :)

Maybe that's because you now get to choose between watching crappy TV shows or being online. Or maybe it's because we now have the ability to combine TV viewing with an interactive experience that supplements it. Or maybe it's because we all know we have places we can "gripe" about shows that stink, and thus we now have higher standards.

Or maybe there really is less quality TV. :)

I blame crappy TV. I'm online mostly. If it's TV, it's a)Discovery, b)History Channel, c)Comedy Central, d)News (ie CNN, etc), or e)sometimes Cartoon Network (Samurai Jack!).

Everything else is mere opiates for the drones. :p
