Combat!

As the party enters the cave, the air suddenly shimmers, revealing a huge, horrid creature composed of wispy flesh. Its maw opens and it snaps at the emissary, ripping out a portion of her body and sending her form tumbling. She smashes into a bone pile and lies very still.

The creature's gaze is terrible to behold!

OOC: Initiative: Silhouette, Vedak, Rose, Snargle, Kelteror, Drax, Kaelvorr, minions.
Feel free to make your own rolls at Invisible Castle to speed things up. Also, you may post earlier than your turn, but be aware that aside from talking, nothing will be resolved until your turn comes up. Mechanically, this is the first round of combat, meaning that you are flat-footed until your turn (pertinent for those with immediate actions.)

Spot checks, see invisible, and caster level checks were all necessary to detect this thing. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the caster level checks weren't kind to the party, with the exception of one for detect magic.

The monster is visible now, which means everyone gets to make Fort saves against its gaze attack [Death, Mind-aff.] Undead, constructs, and those immune to death or mental attacks are immune. If you're immune, post a little note reminding us that you're immune or work it into your round. ;) If you're shutting or averting your eyes (which will protect you starting next round,) post something to that effect.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to list your active buffs when you post ;) Thanks!

Rose, completely unconcerned about the horrid gaze (at least as much as he can be), launches to the offensive. His abysmal demeanor contrasts greatly with the elegance of his movement.
[sblock=OOC]Using dervish dance. Power Attack for 2. Assuming that it is close enough to me, I'm going to move as far as I need to so that I move at least 40' (weaving back and forth, moving around it, etc.). I also move around it while attacking. The goal is to end up on the opposite side of it (so that I can potentially flank) once I'm done with the dance. I do NOT tumble, instead actively trying to provoke AoOs from it so that I can Karmic Strike back.

Fort save v. gaze (1d20+16=35)
Attack rolls for full attack (rolled double just incase I get threats) (1d20+25=30, 1d20+20=34, 1d20+15=30, 1d20+25=41, 1d20+20=28, 1d20+15=28) (the third one is a crit if 28 is enough to hit)
Rolled one extra set for the potential crit (2d4+21=26, 2d4+21=26, 2d4+21=26, 2d4+21=27)
For my potential 7 AoO (1d20+25=34, 2d4+21=29, 1d20+25=35, 2d4+21=28, 1d20+25=28, 2d4+21=27, 1d20+25=26, 2d4+21=24, 1d20+25=41, 2d4+21=29, 1d20+25=42, 2d4+21=23, 1d20+25=31, 2d4+21=26)

freedom of movement from ring
Expeditious dodge: +2 AC if I move more than 40'
Mobility
Combat Reflexes (seven AoOs/round)
Karmic strike: -4 to AC in exchange for AoO if someone hits me
Uncanny dodge
Dervish dance: 8 rounds remain[/sblock]

Silhouette abruptly stiffens, and falls dead as her mind is torn from her body.

OOC :\ I really feel quite bad about this. On the one hand, it was statistically likely that someone was going to fail a roll, but I hadn't thought about the possibility that your second character would be killed off this early. Rest assured that your share alone will be more than enough treasure to bring you back, should the party prove victorious.

OOC: Everyone's Fort save is at +3 for the gaze attack this round due to a kaorti marshall. But I'm pretty sure its going to die from the attack itself.

Follower saves are: 16 Fort Marshall 12 Ref Marshall 13 Will Marshall 15 SR Marshall 24 Init Marshall 6 Warrior 14 Warrior

I also have some questions. Does the creature show up on blindsight? Can Kaelvorr determine what it is/whether its incorporeal? Does possessing an object negate K.'s magic items?[sblock=Stat block]AC: 22
HP: 89 (+23 Temporary)
Init: Set at 27 due to persistent Sign + improved init + Init boost from marshall

Fort +19
Ref +12
Will +30
*Additional +3 to all saves if Kaorti Marshalls are within 30'

Notable Defenses:
Power Resistance 20
Immune gaze attacks and eye contact spells (Blindfold of True Darkness)
Immune to Dismissal and Banish spells (Spellblade Gauntlets)
Ethereal (continuously renewed)
Rays and ranged attacks have 20% miss chance (persistent Entropic Shield)
Does not need to eat or sleep
Will activate Intellect Fortress if hit by damaging spell or power
Will activate Empty Mind if forced to make a Will save
+31 Hide (does not make sound due to Etherealness)

Senses:
Blindsight 60' (Blindfold of True Darkness)
Darkvision 60'[/sblock]

Vedak feels some resistance as his ray strikes the beast, but his superior arcane prowess allows him to overcome it. It pales and seems to lose strength as the ray takes effect.

Rose moves in close, shrugging off the gaze, and trades blows with the creature. The beast bites him once, and he lands three slashes dealing significant damage.

All of the kaorti save one die horribly, screaming and clutching at their heads.

[sblock=OOC](Monster takes 81 damage. Rose takes 21 damage.)

Answers!

I rolled caster level for Vedak; future posters should roll to overcome SR.

The creature did not show up on anyone's blindsight/lifesense prior to its appearance.

Everyone gets that +3 to their Fort saves for this round. I'm mentioning that the kaorti die now; it gets resolved at the end of the round.

I don't think items should work while within items; that gets strangely recursive.[/sblock]
