D&D 5E Ironfang Invasion (IC)

Harb Half-Elf Paladin

Hearing Loosh's cries for help Harb runs over to them. Placing his hand on Raux's forehead and whispering "You have not yet reached the time where your sun will set."

Flint moves some distance away from the bridge, staying near the river's edge, and when he's confident nobody is on the bridge except perhaps goblinoids, the dwarf yells "Clear!" before tossing a bolt of magical fire on the stump remover.

The goblin and Hobgoblin on the bridge stop their pursuit and start sprinting back towards the other side of the bridge when Flint’s fireball hits the stump remover and what once was a bridge becomes a blur as dust, debris and stone fly through the air.

“Quick into the forest, we need to move quickly before they start to track us,” Aubrin’s voice cried out from the nearby forest.

Looking back towards Phaendar, a ceiling of smoke hangs over the city, reflecting the orange glow from burning houses. Ash drifts in the air like falling snow. The screams of the townsfolk have died away, leaving an eerie silence broken now and then by the howling of wolves or the harsh tones of the Goblin tongue. Bodies lie in the streets, sprawled in pools of blood where they fell. It seems everyone in town may be imprisoned or dead except for the hobgoblin invaders. Phaendar has fallen.

GM:

Okay you are all over the bridge and still alive. The bridge is destroyed though there are Goblinoids on the other side who most likely will be reporting back to headquarters.

Lal look at the exploding bridge with astonishment... he hoped that the foes didn't find the recipe, what mischief could it be put to!

Lal provides a helping hand to Harb who looks worse off than he does. In a low voice he asks "So... who are those foes? Their race is not present in my homeland..."

Loosh stares at the town for a few moments, then mutters under his breath, "By Gozreh, you shall be avenged."

Then he turns and sullenly joins the others as they flee into the cover of the forest.

With a grim expression, Flint joins the others after blowing up the bridge. In his head, saving some people from the invaders does not make up for the many who died today, or indeed the many dwarves Flint got killed in the past because of his uncontrolled magic.

He cannot help but remember the names and faces of those who died, on that fateful day and also today. A grey cloud appears above his head, and sometimes faces seem to appear in it, although not clear or long enough to recognize.

"Deed is done," Flint says gloomily. He looks to Vin, and the magical cloud above him disappears. "Now what?"

"Well I would have put money on all of us dying!" Vin smiles laconically. "But I sure am glad that is one bet I lost."

He smiled at Corsa, "Thanks for the help on the bridge, I thought my goose was cooked."

Corsa looks up from cleaning the blood off her dagger and grins. "Of course. It would be a crime to leave anyone so beautiful to die."

"yes, be quick. I will keep and eye out behind and keep up with you." Vin looks back and waves the people past. Once the last has gone he uses his magical speed to keep up, while keeping a good eye out behind.
