Is'Merith - Campaign Thread

Shen cocks her head, her bow lowering a little as her thoughts distract her. These things haven't even attacked yet. What are they looking for? They're unlike nearly anything she's ever fought, certainly unlike any mere pack animal.

An odd thought flashes across her mind: are they even real? It's almost like someone designed and planted them here. the way that one just sort of let itself die, laughing.... It'd sure be useful to have these things guarding the exit to your desert prison and feeding you info, anyway. But no, she shakes her head, that's dumb...right?

"They're talkin' to each other," she shouts to her party. She's not really sure what to do - predicting or outsmarting people, not animals, has never been something she was good at - but she had to look like she had some clue. "Maybe, try and confuse 'em! Make some noise or somethin'!" Shen continues on, wary to look to the ceiling and the ground for more traps. What the heck did they want? Were they just planning an ambush? Why not attack now? Her jaw was starting to hurt; she didn't realize how hard she was grinding her teeth. Being on the business end of these kind of tactics, with no one to tell her how to deal with it, was not fun.

[sblock="OOC"]I'm lying, of course. It is fun. But carry on.[/sblock]

At this point, the half-elf looks terrified, all colour has drained from his already pale face and he is shaking. He looks like he nearly gets ready to run back the way the party came, http://roll.coyotecode.net/lookup.php?rollid=103208, but manages to keep his composure...

"This is absurd." He yells above the barking, "They're toying with us if I'm not mistaken", perhaps they want to try and separate us?"

With that, 4 goblins appear out of side tunnels close to Shen, blocking her off from the rest of the party. Another 3 burst around the corner on one side of the party, then another 3 on the other.

[sblock=Initiative] Before I roll initiative, what do you all do (Taking ambuscade into account of course)?

EDIT: Actually, you may all roll initiative yourselves if you like :) Shen is 35 ft away from the party in a 10ft wide tunnel, the goblins are 10 and 15ft from her respectively. The other goblins are on the parties right and left and are 5 and 10ft away on one side and 5ft away on the other 2 of them are blocking the party from Shen. Insight roles are permitted for those interested.[/sblock]

Seeing several of the beasts come almost out of nowhere to ambush him and his companions, Isaac whispers to himself "I guess it's time to see how they all fight, hopefully they're as competent as the guild seems to believe." He readies his weapons once more as he sizes up the enemy to decide where he might prove most effective.

Alejandro takes stock.

He is worried for Nora, the woman who more than anyone has acted as a mother to him since he was orphaned. By all accounts it sounds as though she is infected with the Red Death.

He is out of the city, has no idea where he is, and he hates this feeling of not knowing where the exits are.

He couldn't afford a healing potion.

Shen is cut off.

They are surrounded.

And all so this grinning idiot can work in the mines.

He gets angry. Very angry.

[sblock=He rages!] Grr [/sblock]

He looks around to make sure their retreat is not compromised. If not, he will run at the nearest goblin that is blocking Shen off. If they are, he will run at the nearest goblin blocking their rear.

He swings his silvered staff one handed and brings his shield up
[sblock=AC and hit roll]
AC is now 14 with the shield
To hit : 1D20+2+2 = [12]+2+2 = 16

if that hits, damage roll: Damage: 1D6+2+2 = [4]+2+2 = 8

As the barks echo through the chamber, Daedarai motions slightly over his recovered arrow and the ichor evaporates. Notching the arrow, he moves towards the wall looking for cover and a place to hide for the coming battle.

[SBLOCK=Plans] Prestidigitation for flavor. Daedarai is moving towards the wall looking for an outcropping or stalagmite that may provide some cover and hiding. When battle starts, he will be attacking to make a path towards Shen first so probably supporting Alejandro's charge from range. He will be aiming for sneak attack as much as possible either through coordinating strikes or from stealth. He will prefer to stay hidden as much as possible (Cunning Action: Hide) though if engaged in melee, he will (Cunning Action: Disengage) instead and try to get closer to Alejandro or Isaac for melee support. [/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=Rolls] Stealth roll if allowed before initiative.Pre-fight stealth check: 1D20+7 = [6]+7 = 13 Ignore if no time available.
Initiative roll: Initiative roll: 1D20+3 = [14]+3 = 17
First attack roll: Attack w/ Shortbow: 1D20+5 = [17]+5 = 22 If hidden, that would be with advantage, but I don't want to presume. If advantaged, I would sneak attack a goblin between us and Shen that hasn't been hit yet.
First damage roll if a hit (assumes sneak attack damage): Damage roll: 1D6+3+1D6 = [3]+3+[3] = 9 If sneak attack isn't possible, then 6 damage.
Bonus action to hide: Cunning action hide (stealth) roll: 1D20+7 = [14]+7 = 21[/SBLOCK]

(Well, nuts.) So much for plans. Shen jumps as some goblins pop out in front of her, half-accidentally loosing an arrow in their direction. (Let's have us a rodeo, then.)

[sblock="Tactics"]Attacking whichever goblin first. Then a ranged attack on any damaged goblin near me if I'm fast enough; if something reaches melee with me first, smack it with my bow and drop it as an object interaction. Either way, draw halberd after that and go to town on these guys by me. If possible after that, hide and try to use Skirmisher's Stealth to harass and re-stealth against the goblins near the others.

Rolls:
Initiative: 1D20+2 = [11]+2 = 13
Bow attack: 1D20+4 = [1]+4 = 5

No, roller! Don't turn on me now!
Second bow attack: 1D20+4 = [11]+4 = 15
Bow damage: 1D8+2 = [4]+2 = 6
Improvised attack: 1D20+2 = [7]+2 = 9 (+2 if you count it as a proficient attack)
Improvised damage (2H): 1D6+2 = [1]+2 = 3
Wow this is not going great.

[sblock=OOC]Will just wait until tonight for Mina to jump in and attack in case she wants to use spells or inspiration etc. I'll wait for about 8-10 hours rom now. Otherwise i'll just get her to do something generically.[/sblock]

[sblock=AC errata] whoops, shields are +2, so my AC with shield is actually 15, not 14, sorry [/sblock]

[sblock=Trogdor] Does your 2WF depend on not Moving? I thought in any round you can Move up to your full movement allowance, plus take an Action - if your Attack Action gives you 2 attacks, it shouldn't matter if you moved? Or am I reading that wrongly?[/sblock]

[SBLOCK=Trogdor TWF] I wondered what he meant by a full attack. I thought he was referring to Action Surge and that he was just saving it for later. TGG, you're right about the attack action being independent of movement (I believe if you have two attacks for each attack action you can even break them up with movement), but for TWF, it relies on your bonus action which is also independent of movement. Trogdor, you are able to use your off hand weapon with your bonus action so you can move, attack, and use your bonus to attack with the other weapon (as long as both weapons are light or you have an ability that modifies that restriction). Long story short, you should be able to make another attack if you want to get a roll in.[/SBLOCK]
