Just an fyi (I wasn't near a computer earlier) but Cartoon Network started showing it's new season of Justice League tonight. They actually showed two new ones back to back (part I and II of the same story).

It featured both Darkseid (sp?) and Brainiac as the villans.

Incidently, before that, they showed two hours (4 episodes worth) of Superman cartoons that featured Darkseid and his story.

Anyway, the new episodes of Justice League will no doubt repeat Sunday and later during the week. I believe I heard that new episodes will be on all July (during the saturday time slot).

anyway, just an fyi for those who are interested :)

New Justice League! Woohoo!

This two-parter was pretty good. Superman was handled better than most of the earlier episodes. The tension between Superman and Batman was well done, as well as Superman's anger towards Darkseid. It's always nice to see consistency in the guest voices, including Rene Auberjonois as DeSaad and Michael Dorn as Kalibak.

I wish they didn't take such a narrow approach to the characters' super powers, though. I want to see Flash, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl doing more. In the comics, Flash and GL do much, much more with their powers than what we see in the cartoon. And all Hawkgirl does is fly and smash things. These guys really have much more potential than that. Take Static Shock for example; from the cartoons, his powers seem to be more versatile than the entire Justice League combined! Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but Static is often experimenting with his abilities and expanding his potential. This doesn't happen at all in Justice League.

Well part of that is because Static Shock focuses on one character where the Justive League focuses on a bunch of characters. Making power development a little more difficult.

I had forgoten the new episodes were on tonight.. Hopefully they are on tomorrow. Really want to see these.

Question -- (I am really bad with names) - who was DeSaad?

I could recognize Michael Dorn's voice right away. I didn't even notice Rene Auberjonois though so I am interested in figuring out who that character was...

DeSaad is Darkseid's main yes-man and toadie. He's the one who said the attack was a fool's errand, which irritated Darkseid enough to blast him (probably using the Omega effect to teleport him to a torture chamber). DeSaad was the old, skinny guy in the purple robe. He's also Darkseid's torturer, as he revels in causing pain.

They were extremely faithful to the New Gods stuff in these episodes (even referring to the Anti-Life equation). That was pretty impressive.

AAHH.. okay, hmm. I did not notice Rene's voice at all!

Admitedly, I don't know much of the mythology created for this. I only know what was from the Superman cartoon series prior to this. Looking at the 4 epidoes of Superman that aired right before JL, I can say that they kept true to SO much (all the small references) from the Superman cartoon for this.

Really minor spoiler to follow that doesn't really spoil anything.

I was amused by Superman saying "Go to ...." (and getting cut off) I rarely think of Superman as being someone who would say that :)

Yeah, I see why they do it. But I think they're working from a faulty premise.

Simpler isn't always better. Since the only thing Hawkgirl does is fly and smash things, it's easier for viewers to get a handle on her. But it also makes her very two-dimensional.

It's actually not that important for the viewers to know everything she can do, so long as the writers know exactly what she can do. But I'm sure I'm biased, having spent years reading super-hero comics, especially team books with long histories and dozens of characters.

I liked it...

I find it odd that the most serious member of the team (Batman), has the funniest lines.

...but I like it.

I liked it and I agree that Batman often turns out to be the funny guy. He did have some very amusing comments in this story. And the "relationship" between him and Wonder Woman is kinda cute too.
I agree there really isn't much time to do much character develpoment in a (less than) half hour episode, maybe they could focus more on the members that have not had their own shows, i.e. other than Supes and Bats.

Manhunter really needs to workout and practice with his powers more...he gets to pull a few cool tricks from time to time but there are many times I am thinking "Hey look out! "Phase" man!!"
Although I suppose if he really got it together he could steal the show.

I also agree that they did a good job with Superman and it was a great idea to show the episodes if his series relating to this story. Somehow I had missed seeing the SupesEps where Darkseid had brain washed him...pretty cool!

It was kind of funny that "New Genesis" was supposed to be such a wonderful place yet there is a huge nasty critter bursting out of the ground and trying to eat WW and Bats and then all of the New Gods looked down their noses at the "Bugs" on the surface...
Compare that to when Supes trashed Darkseid and his own 'oppressed people' pick him up and care for him...;)
