Keep on the Shadowfell Question

I havn't seen this addressed on any of the various KotS threads, so forgive me if I'm rehashing something I've missed.

To anyone who has viewed the module already, what are the xp requirements for characters to progress to 2nd and 3rd level?

A total of 1000 XP for 2nd level and 2250 XP for 3rd. It takes 10 monsters of equivalent level to a character for it to gain sufficient XP to gain a level.

From my experience that works out to about 12 to 15 hours of play (If you have a bit of role-playing between delves.) per level.

FWIW, you're xp does cap at 1,000,000 for 30th level. And while 3e had an easy to remember formula, it didn't have an easy to remember chart. I always had to recalculate the formula in my head if I wanted to get the next xp level.

keeping track of total xp always seemed more trouble than it was worth. Xp to next level is all you'll ever need, and that is an easy number to remember. Even with spending xp (or loosing it) you'll either just note negative xp or drop down a level and do a simple max xp for new level-lost xp calculation.

does that mean your party only killed 10 monsters or that your party killed 10 monsters per PC? (i assume the second)

I just don't worry about XP. I just say, "Level." I'll probably use XP in 4E to judge encounters, but not necessarily to level the party.
