Kill that SOB

Just a thought, not even my own.... :uhoh:

It is considered to be breaking a federal law to say you will kill the president. What if you say you will after their time as president is over?

weird thought in my weird head on a weird day......

I don't know. It probably shouldn't be illegal to merely say it, free speech and all. Might get some agency to keep tabs on you if you say it enough.

As for after the term, presidents have secret service protection for 12 years, iirc, after leaving office. So I'm guessing it'd still be a big deal. :)

Do you mean, saying you will kill "the president" or you will kill "George Washington"?

Saying, in 1792, you will kill "the president" means George Washington. Saying, in 1800, you will kill "the president" means John Adams.

If you say, in 1800, you will kill "George Washington," you are not talking of killing "the president."

"The president" refers to the person currently in the office, yes? "George Washington" refers to a citizen.

I think it would depend on the context (sincerity) of the statement. Communicating a threat, and all that. How would you feel if someone said they would kill you?

Total Bullgrit

Seems to me that this, by its very nature, is going to end up political, so I'm going to nip it in the bud.

Sorry.

Just to note - it is, in general, illegal to threaten to kill anyone. Details vary from state to state, and making a threat on the life of a Federal official makes it a federal case...
