Klingon forehead discrepancy to finally be addressed!

First Post
I'm a bit embarassed to admit I was trolling for Star Trek news over the weekend, but hey, Enterprise has actually been good lately so what's a geek to do. :) Anyways, i found this news item from Dec 16: http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/news/article/8695.html -- hopefully not a repost. It'll be interesting to see how well they handle it. Personally, I did't mind that it was never explained (especially since the explanation had nothing to do with the world of Star Trek, but rather budgetary limitations with TOS). I'm reminded of the DS9 episode where the crew was inserted into Trouble with Tribbles and Worf became incensed over the issue. Classic stuff. :)

I always liked the "It was the Tribbles" explination James Doohan gave on The Merv Griffon Show. I don't think he was serious but hey, it was better than anything else.

I thought it was said way back, there was the the story of human slaves breeding program, to allow better relationships/interactions with the human race, to build a army quickly, and that the smooth headed Klingons were placed on the borders of the Fed and Empire.

Personally I think the best explanation is that there is/was no explanation. Although the Worf jokes in trouble with tribbles made me LOL :) like there was no tomorrow, I personally do not need an explanation.

Besides isn't it closing your eyes to the obvious truth that none of the startrek series really fit in the same puzzle? Startrek series should be viewed and judged seperately as the only real thing you can compare is the use of special effects or quality of writing. The "Klingon forehead discrepancy" (tm) is just one of those things that stands out.

Thats the way they explained it in the FASA Star Trek RPG too.

IMO, that's a boneheaded move... :p

Just reading that article, it looks like that arc will have more nods than a sleep clinic. ;)

Personally, I'd think it would be best to simply leave it alone. To ignore it.

They didn't afford the makeup. Explaination enough.

But since they're doing it, I await their explainations eagerly.

That's what they did during DS9 in "Trials and Tribulations" essentially; they pretty much said "We're not touching this with a 10-foot pole". I think though that got the fans even more worked up about the issue and increased the speculation. It didn't help that DS9 opened another huge can of worms earlier called "Blood Oath"; in that episode, original series smoooth headed Klingons Kor, Kang, and Koloth showed up as bumpy headed Klingons. Before that, the differences could have been simply ruled as two seperate species, as the news article said, and Roddenberry even once made a somewhat joking comment along those lines (he said they were northern and southern Klingons or something like that). Still, "Blood Oath" was a pretty good episode, as were the 2 other DS9 episodes that featured Kor.

Bottom line: I think they're doing it to finally shut the fans up about it already. :)

That, and the Section 31 thing. I read all 4 books, and I WANT MORE!

Mmm, Section 31. More intereseting stuff. There's also mentioned the mirror universe storyline; I don't know how well they'll pull that off, since there's really nothing connecting the two universes before "Mirror, Mirror". It could be cool though because they delivered some really good storylines with the mirror universe in DS9.
