latest stargate ep (spoilers and tears)

I wonder if this episode was written when they thought this would be the last season? It's towards the end of what was supposed to be the end of the series (they have since signed on for another season).

I could be wrong, but I've been told this is definitely the last season for SG-1.
Stargate - Atlantis (a spin off) will begin next season.

I'm saddened - the Doctor was the main reason I watched the show - I thought she was really really cute. I was hoping somehow she would be included in the spinoff.

There will be at least one more season of Stargate: SG-1. The main actors signed on for an 8th season. I forget exactly when it happened. Stargate: Atlantis is supposed to be a seperate show set in the same universe.

That is correct. Atlantis and Season 8 are supposed to premire the same week on Sci Fi. I don't know if they will be on the same night or on different nights.

So is there any talk of minor characters from SG1 making it over to atlantis? I was hoping for the doctor prior to finding out she was gonna die, since she's probably the most well known of the non-credit characters... I can't envision Sweater Vest in a leading role, and aside from cassandra, I can't think of anyone else recognizable - maybe jonas quinn, but he seems settled back home. Maybe they can pardon mayborn and send him along if he didn't die when I wasn't looking. ;) I dunno, I don't expect one of the big four to leave the team, but it would be nice to see a familiar face on atlantis, even if its a character we didn't know that much about before...

I would be surprised to see one of the other SG teams that have been semi highlighted. Maybe even the scientist from Avenger 2.0. Maybe they can pick up Adam Baldwin if he isn't too busy doing the Firefly movie.

I have known all season that Janet was going to die. But even knowing this I found this episode to be very powerful.

I loved the speech the producer made about freedom of speech and muzzling the press. And his points about one day people wanting to know what happened here.

All around I think this was one of the best episodes.

I will miss Janet but I think her death added some drama to the show. They are at war and people die in wars even non combanets.

It was supposed to be the last season, RDA is already only working part time on the show this season he was leaving to spend more time with his family but they talked him into one more season. I wouldn't expect to see a lot of him in the last season
and there was a rumor going around that he was going to be promoted to General and take Hammonds place when he retired from the SGC (I don't know if that rumors still going around or not, I read it late last year)
. You can find rumors and news at Gateworld.net, I haven't been there in a while though.

Stargate SG-1 star Richard Dean Anderson ("Colonel Jack O'Neill") will appear in the premiere episode of the spin-off series Stargate Atlantis, the actor told the Canadian Press news agency. "We're shooting it concurrently and it will hopefully pick up the ball," Anderson said. "I'll help launch it. I'll be in the pilot but after that I'm done."

Colonel O'Neill appears in the episode to help convince Major John Sheppard, one of Atlantis' regular characters, to join the dangerous mission to another galaxy.

Anderson also said that Season Eight of SG-1, which begins filming in February, will be his final year with the long-running series. "I have a five-year-old daughter who I don't get to see enough," Anderson said, "I'm going to build a house in California and I'm going to learn Spanish."
