Little things that make you smile

A small list...

Sitting on my porch with a cup of coffee in my hand, one of the cats on my lap and watching the sun rise. I like it especially during winter, seeing the contrast of colours.

Actually, being out in the sun in general makes me pretty happy, as long as I'm being active.

When I've made the perfect brew of coffee and take the firs sip.

Eating the first row of new block of chocolate.

The moment when you can first smell the salty aroma of the ocean.

Times when I'm visiting my mother's house and we say the same thing (we are too alike, sometimes).

Seeing something funny that doesn't rely on being cruel or vulgar.

Finally succeeding at something I've been working hard at.

  • Riding through London on the upper deck of a double-decker bus when there are no other passengers on board. I like to sit right at the front.
  • Watching a beautiful sunset in summer
  • Walking up hills/mountains and enjoying the vista
  • Chocolate
  • Having an idea for a customizable fantasy toy and having the concept turn out just as I imagined (see the Stikfas dwarfette for example)
  • Getting a die that's a new shape especially if the die is for rolling a range for which I didn't previously have a die
  • Discovering and getting any new book about RPGs
  • Getting to the post office or bank to find there's no queue
  • Chocolate. Did I mention that one?
  • In D&D, scoring a critical hit with two 20s and saving the party as a result
  • Buying a DVD or book at a discount store which turns out to be really good. This happened to me recently with a book on fantasy art.

Hmm ... I'da thought, Huw, that non slug devoured vegetable gardens growing beautifully would be a nice little thing that would make you smile. :D

I kid. I kid. Nice to see you in Off-topic again and hope your garden is growing beautifully! :)

It would make me smile if it had happened....

The slugs returned to eat my rocket, then moved on to the runner beans before the heat wave forced them back into hiding. If it rains again, I might take up my neighbour's suggestion of hanging around after dark with a pair of secateurs :]

Silver lining: Some of the rocket has reshot, so I might get something edible by autumn. Also, the slugs have avoided the radishes. I ate them today - very hot, which is probably why the slugs avoided them.

When a kid (I'm a YA librarian) comes in to the library every day all summer long and stops to talk books to me each time, or says "you weren't here yesterday - I missed seeing you."

It feels so good that they are interested in talking to a fussy middle-aged librarian!

Likewise when a kid who ran with a really bad crowd comes back years later to get a set of English language learning tapes so he can teach a co-worker...

I would reply.... but then it would offend Eric's late grandmother and that would make Jebus (and every other diety in the cosmos) sad enough to make me burn in hell.

ROFLMAO!!

The poor, poor dog!

lol, he is a large lab rottie mix, he watches the kids jump then jumps up there himself and jumps along with them barking the whole time.....it is so funny. His tail is wagging the whole time he is jumping...I am sure if the kids had a tail they would wag it too....
