Are there any tweaks we can make to that process to make it less painful? I can easily see that there's an amount of give and take in getting a character approved for M&M. Since character generation is more complicated than what some players may be used to, I'd expect some amount of iteration between a prospective player and the judges would be necessary. I'd hope that anyone looking to jump into this would understand that's just a necessary evil with gaming in the superhero genre, and that it seems to have gotten a lot better over the years.
It's being worked on. It's a combination of several things, but to be fair, I realy don't want to bring it out in public, and neither did he other than to say he was upset with it. Hopefully we can resolve it, but untill then, he's chosen to bow out of the game, which is fine.
I will ask that a Mod remove his post from the ready room, simply to clean it up. If he returns, he's welcome to his spot in the character thread till we're at the point where we're removing placeholders, which will be the 1st of next year.
I think we simply need to improve comunication between players and judges, but players will need to realize the following, while judges will try to adhear to these as well.
1) Due to the nature of the openness of this game, Disadvantages will be seriously scrutinized and limited, so be prepaired to defend them with the game effects
2) Since the rules are new, don't be afraid to ask how to do something, either here or in an e-mail. And, if all else fails, discribe what you are trying to do, and perhaps we can suggest a better way.
3) Feel free to submit works in progress, but realize it may not get as much attention as a "final submition"
4) A background helps us with creation, if only in giving us an idea of what you are attempting, and since some backrounds are not as allowable as others. Notes and/or descriptions of the character's capabilities can be helpful as well (I've done that with both of my characters in the notes sections, much like a profile the UN might have on said character's abilities)
5) Try to have fun. We as judges are trying to keep things fair and balanced, and are going to try to assume you have the same interests in mind. So try to take any criticisms we give as constructive, and we'll try to be non-confrontational and helpfull in any concerns we may have about your character.
It will take work from both sides to make this fun, so let's try everything we can do to get there.
