Looking for a Pal/Sor Prestige Class

What are the Prestige Class options for a multiclass paladin/sorcerer in 3.5? I had expected the Book of Exalted Deeds to present at least one good PR for this multiclass combination, but I found none.

I always liked the synergy between the Sorcerer's prime stat and the Paladin's Divine Grace. It offsets putting a lot points into a suboptimal stat: Charisma. I agree with 3.5 moving the Divine Grace ability to 2nd level, making it a little harder to get.

But now that I have invested in 2 levels of Paladin, and considering the already slow spell progression of the Sorcerer, is there no PR to take without enduring another serious hit in spellcasting progression?

There's always the Eldritch Knight, which gives you +10 BAB and +9 spellcasting levels over 10 levels. However, if you've taken 2 levels of paladin, you will need to be 21st level before you can cast 9th level spells.

I'd have to say *don't do it*.

I had a 2nd Paladin who multiclassed into sorcerer, and by the time we were all 6th level I felt like a complete 5th wheel. At 6th level I'd just got my first ever 2nd level spell :(

I was having so much not-fun the DM allowed me to retire the character and bring in something else instead.

The problem is level 2 & 3 of the sorcerer class, which are so boring (what a *whole* new cantrip?) that you feel like you have been becalmed in the doldrums while the fighters are great-cleaving, the wizard is fireballing, the druid is shapechanging...

It sounds like great synergy... but in practise?

That's another reason why I'd prefer the Spellsinger... sadly the 3.5 paladin screws it (most of the abilities are a bit late).

Spellsinger gets his spells one level earlier than the sorcerer and is thusly a valid EK candidate.

I'd suggest some of the old EK threads how to build a valid EK character with at least two paladin levels... will be hard work though, you'll need several buff spells to be a valid melee char :(

Dragon Disciple is a fun PrC for a Pal5/Sor1. Your Sorcerer spells are Feather Fall and True Strike, since you can cast those without fear of arcane spell failure.

You can apply your Bonus Spells to either Sorcerer or Paladin (extra Bless Weapons are never a bad idea). You can use wands, and you have a few tricks up your sleeve, including a Breath Weapon.

IMC, the Royal High Guard have several Pal9/Sor1/DD10.

Where's your focus? Melee? Archery? Mounted combat? Spells? Diplomacy?

Focus on one area as much as you can and there will prolly be something useful. Eldritch knight isn't bad, if you can accept the delay on your spells.

Thanx for all the input! I will provide some more info:

My character is now a 3.0 Mnk1/Pal1/Sor7. We are a few weeks away from returning to our Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil campaign, only now using 3.5 rules. Obviously, a straight conversion will cause the character to lose his Divine Grace, Evasion, Lay on Hands and Divine Health.

I created this character because I when 3.0 came out I wanted to try the Sorcerer class. I wasn't too charmed by the concept: minimal spell selection and slower spell progression, but I liked that they finally made a class that relied on Charisma.

Because I considered Charisma a suboptimal ability (you gain nothing extra from it) and Charisma related skills are unreliable (even 6 Cha Half-Orcs can Intimidate or Gather Information). I looked for some synergy and found it in Divine Grace. I then thought about a character that would (initially) think of himself as a (holy) warrior but would slowly learn to appreciate his arcane powers and turn into a full-fledged sorcerer. He would also focus on Diplomacy.

I came up with this background: His Father disappeared during the war with Iuz, his mother brought him to a monastery because she could not afford to raise him. When he came of age he left the monastery, desiring to join the crusade. He signed up for a military order of Heironeous, but was expelled when his sorcerous powers manifested. He then took up adventuring. He sees his Sorcerous powers as god-given by Heironeous. He would certainly not be a religious fanatic, but a natural leader who feels insecure and unworthy of a position of leadership, even though he naturally gravitates towards it.

I want him to continue primarily as a spellcaster. He has been fighting less and less the last few levels, and I was (in 3.0) satisfied with the contribution he made to our party's efforts, even if he was a substandard caster. The fact that he had tremendous saves (and evasion) helped him survive several encounters that would have been lethal to a single-classed Sorcerer in our (somewhat self-centered) party.

I did consider the Eldritch Knight PRC, but I didn't think it fit him. It is central to his character that he has turned away from the melee path. I am currently considering making him a Pal2/Sor7 or a Clr3/Sor4/Mystic Theurge 2. The last combination sadly loses him yet another spellcaster level, but keeps in his 'Holy Warrior through spellcasting' philosophy.

I do think raising the Paladin's Divine Grace and Monk's Evasion ability to 2nd level in 3.5 where good ideas. I just had hoped that the Book of Exalted Deeds would have contained a +1 caster level PR that fit a Paladin/Sorcerer combination that already had given up 2 lvls of Sorcerer to a Paladin class.

Spells and Diplomacy.

I'd take the Spellsinger Class from KPG instead, allows you to cast in full armour. Later then Eldritch Knight :D

What does the Spellsinger do? What is KPG? Spellsinger sounds elven, is that a prereq (my character is human)?

I suppose I got lucky because I played in 3.0, since I started playing as Mnk1?Pal1/Sor2. I felt that I could contribute quite well, although I never really shined in any single area. But I kept to my feet when the others were running away and was pretty versatile. Maybe the party helped as well: we had one (Duellist type) Ftr4, a Mnk4, a Ran1/Rog3 and a Clr4. Thus, no competition from other arcane spellcasters.
