So my wife and I are sitting down after lunch on Sunday, relaxing. On the History Channel comes 'Conquest', a show in which they are examining (in this episode) oddball melee weapons (some of which aren't so odd, such as the mace or flail...unless not using a sword counts as odd
). During the discussion, the host begins explaining the billhook and other polearms, and shows one of the more wicked French designs.
"What IS that?", my lady-wife asks of the particular foul head on a particular polearm.
"I think that's a bil guisarme," says I.
"Nasty," opines she.
I quickly point out that in 1e, there was a picture of several weapons and all the polearms with their particular names in the 1e AD&D PHB. I retrieve same, flipping through to find it.
Two things then occur:
1) I rediscover how much I loved the artwork in the 1e PHB and DMG, if only due to nostalgia.
2) I CANNOT FIND THE BLOODY PICTURE ANYWHERE.
Says I to my lady-wife: "I'll post on ENWorld. Somebody 'll know where this picture is, I"m sure of it."
So, how about it folks? Am I nuts? Have I imagined this illustration out of whole cloth, or have I misattributed the illustration from somewhere else (like, say, GURPS)?
Help a guy out, here.
