Looking for good multiclass warrior-type

Hi all,

I'm looking at starting a new campaign soon, and I was wanting to play a warrior type. I haven't really tried multicalssing in 3E, so I'd be interested in trying it out.

I'm thinking fighter/barbarian, or maybe barbarian/ranger. I'm looking at being a versatile fighter rather than just a meat shield or tank.

Basically core-only, maybe PHBII classes allowed. No B09S, no psionics, no incarnum.

All ideas welcome. :)

If permitted the Tactical Soldier PrC from miniatures Handbook might be worthwhile for you. It's a support style Prc that is still a warrior type (it can choose the sqaure it is considered flaking from, protect others, plus more).

Otherwise it depends on what you want for your other abilities.

A Barb/Rogue sounds like fun. a Druid/Rogue? Fighter/cleric (buff/heal/protection spells in the main) for a support type. Ranger/Barb?

... Druid?

Sure, you're a pansy spellcaster from level 1 to 4, but once level 5 hits, you're a bear. :D

Cheers, -- N

A scout/ranger with the Swift Hunter feat from Complete Scoundrel is wicked fun. Amongst other things, the feat lets your skirmish damage apply against any of your favored enemies. Think undead, constructs, etc.

Incidentally, I've found a new respect for ranged scouts. They can force the enemy to fight on their terms by denying them multiple attacks, then doing whoploads of damage on a single hit.

Except you just invalidated the three best sources of ideas. :p

Barbarian/Fighter/Dragon Shaman maybe, or Barbarian/Fighter/Rogue? Focused on Fighter levels probably for a variety of combat feats. Dragon shamans have some skill boosts and decent class skills if you choose the right dragon totem for your character, though their skill points are poor. They are tough though, and the combination of some minor auras and a minor special ability after a while could be useful. *shrug*

Hmm, some good suggestions. I probably want to steer clear of casters for the time being, last time I played was a cleric in RHoD.

Core only?

1) Halfling Ranger (or Fighter)/Paladin/Outrider.

He uses the Fighter or Ranger levels to boost either his mounted melee or mounted ranged combat skills, Paladin to get a special mount, and Outrider for the special bennies from that PrCl.

Add in some Extra Smite...

2) Fighter/Cleric with any 2 of Destruction, Strength, and War domains. Depending on Feat choice, take the Morningstar, Maul, Flail, or Hydraflail as your main weapon (you hate undead, they hate blunt weapons). If you go TWF, use the spiked shield as your off-hand weapon. If you're using Forgotten Realms, make it a Gold or Platinum Heavy Weapon (from Magic of Faerun) to boost its base damage.

3) Ftr/Barb with Greatspear. Power Attack, Cleave, Greatcleave, Lunging Strike, Monkey Grip, Specialization, Leap...don't forget to make your hide armor spikey. IMHO, Greatspear is one of the most versatile weapons out there: 2d6 base damage, 10' reach, 10 range increment, and counts as a Longspear for certain feats (see Complete Adventurer).

4) Paladin/Monk/Kensai. With the Ascetic Knight feat, your Monk and Paladin levels synergize nicely. With the Kensai PrCl, you'll boost the potency of your Unarmed Strikes as if they were magic weapons.

If you consider Oriental Adventures Core (updated Dragon #318), the Sohei makes a nice sub for the Paladin or Cleric. They're a spiritually oriented warrior-cleric with fewer supernatural powers in favor of more combat prowess.

5) Dwarf Ftr/Ranger TWF specialist with Monkey Grip & Oversized TWF using paired Large sized Dire Picks. When he crits, he CRITS!
