Lost 2-28-07

As for what happened at the end, I sat through it all and saw Kate talking to the French Woman, then the credits, then promos for next week, which featured Locke doing something that cheeses off Sayid.

It shows they find a small house/farm with pigs and stuff in the middle of the jungle, and Sayyid is shot by a man with a patch over his eye, who Locke then captures..

Not sure what happens to Sayyid. I think he's shot in the arm.

I must have watched a different show than most people here. I did not like this episode at all. In fact, I think it was the WORST of the season. I mean, there was no new info. No questions answered. No new questions raised. In every episode so far, there was at least a POINT to them, if nothing more than to give us a little action. In this one.... There was no point. What was the point of the episode? Don't give up hope? We make our own luck? You can start a dead car by pushing it down hill?

And no, I have no idea what my friend was talking about at the end. So they mean the French chick. Big whoop. Maybe he meant the promo for next week? That was about the only exciting thing for me. Seems like they'll run into eye-patch man. Also, it sounded like they may be close to getting contact with "the mainland"...

Great episode. Finally something positive. I loved how quickly Hurley turned Sawyer around with his love, so very cool. And the four of them in the van, laughing, so awesome. And Hurley talking to Libby at her grave, wow, so rough.

Great episode.

I enjoyed this episode a lot. There was some great character interaction, once again proving that the ensemble works pretty well as a whole. Certainly more so than the leads and the Others.

I think my favorite moment was Sayid telling Kate about Locke's revelation, and it was obvious they were just playing along with Locke, nodding and smiling so to speak. It's moments like that that make the show what it is.

I think the reason is because I've discovered that Lost is at it's worst when it's trying to play mythology. Lost is at it's best when it's doing characters. Big surprise, since they've said all along it's about the characters. The problem is the mythology (and in big part, the Others) just drags the show down.

Did this episode answer any questions? Absolutely not. It avoided the mythology almost entirely, and that is why it worked.

Hurley is part of the show's mythology, though.

The characters work well when they talk about what's going on and ask questions. I thought I disliked Kate, but I realize I would have been cool with Kate and Sawyer last episode if they hadn't just thrown the kid away. I actually liked Kate this episode because she's driving plot.

Yeah, the Others are just annoying. Ben's cool, and I like Tom (though I'm disappointed he seems to be a bit of a weeny out of makeup), but the rest I could take or leave.

I thought it was the beer :D

That and I think Sawyer respected Hurley a bit more for standing up for himself:

"Red Neck... Man."

"Touché"

Yeah, true. :)

I was referring to when Sawyer came wheeling over, all steamed about them taking his stuff, but when Hurley gave him the super-enthusiastic welcome and hung, poof, his piss and vinegar were gone.

I found this one to be a tolerable episode, and probably the best in a long while - only because 1) it focused on Hurley, and 2) no Others.

The lack of mythology advancement is a continued minus.

Best quote of the episode!

Yeah there was- we learned Hugo's best friend Johnny ran off with Starla, his girlfriend.

No questions answered.

We learned what happened between Hugo and Starla.

No new questions raised.

Why did Starla run off with Johnny...?

All of the above. Plus, we see a reunion between characters. We see Sawyer realize that he's actually touched some people in a genuine way, and decide that maybe he can actually try and reach out to Kate (though, sadly, she's not there to share his moment, which may be fleeting, because he's just that cynical). We see Jin's language skills improving. We learn that the Dharma Initiative was working on a road on the island (which may become important down the line).

Plus, don't be so quick to discount the hope bit. With this reunion, and with Hugo's finally putting the numbers curse behind him, and the means by which he involves the others in his quest (arguably, those most in need of hope- Charlie, Sawyer, and to a lesser extent, Jin)- the castaways are renewed from all the bleakness of the last several weeks (from the end of season 2 and the deaths of Ana-Lucia and Libby and Michael's betrayal, up through the capture of Sawyer, Kate, and Jack).

Perhaps more importantly, we see that (with Kate's sidestory) they've been spurred on to doing something about it.

Lastly, we learn that the Dharma Initiative's got a brewery somewhere.

Actually, I think they had to have had roads in the past, just to get supplies and people to the site where they build the stations. It buggers the imagination to think people carried tons of concrete, steel and equipment in all by hand through miles of jungle. The roads have just become overgrown in the 17 years of so since everything when arse over teakettle.

Pshaw. It's probably just Lone Star or Coors and they just changed the label.
