Lost 3/21/2007

As soon as Ben told the story about the magic box, I immediately thought of the smoke monster, and it seemingly impersonating Eko's brother Yemi. Then, Locke's dad comes out of the box... I'd bet money at this point the box allows for manipulation of the smoke monster.

I'm glad Kate and Sayid got caught... I don't know why Sayid was going along with this plan, but from the beginning it seemed stupid to me. I've said it before, I don't think any of them were really there for Jack, except maybe Sayid.

I really don't think Locke's motivations in the flashbacks made sense, aside from not telling that kid what happened, as someone said above. I especially don't get why Locke would have lied to the feds... I guess that's what his previous flashback was about, possibly?

Overall, an average episode... not great, not sucky, just right in the middle.

Also, in the freaky department, right after the cut from John being pushed out the window, there was a story about a local man that fell forty feet.

A lot of that is likely just lighting/weather....it could be an indicator that certain shots were done on different days. I know several people, including myself, whose eyes appear different colours depending on the day.

I considered that, too, but all of the close-up scenes with Ben (in his room, outside the door to Locke's dad) were indoors, so I'd think that the sun/lighting/time of day would not be a factor. I do know people's eyes can look different on different days--and I suppose you could be correct--but I got the distinct feeling that they were making a point, especially in that very last scene, of focusin on his eyes. Ben's eye color just looked weird, and definitely very different from the earlier scenes.

No, it was the magic box. Magic box was clearly stated as producing John's dad.

Clearly stated by Ben, who isn't necessarily the most reliable source. His daughter even calls him on it.

I doubt that it was this magical box, seriously. Recall what Ben tells Richard when Locke is in the closet- "Bring me the man from Tallahassee." Probably picked Locke's dad up in Florida.

Doing a search right now if Tallahassee's been mentioned before, but it seems to ring a bell for some reason.

[EDIT- Seems Kate and Sawyer both have mentioned Tallahassee before, lending more credence to the oft-cited notion that Locke's dad is Sawyer's con-man. We still haven't learned how Locke knew Sawyer's real name is James. I imagine we might get a Locke/Sawyer/Locke's dad confrontation sometime down the line here.]

Decent episode, though I didn't expect him to have his back broken that way. Also thought him vouching (by denial to the kid) for his "dad" was kind of lame.

Despite the fact that his father is a complete waste of space on the planet, he's still John's father, with John having grown up without a father. To someone in that situation, psychologically speaking, he's probably willing to take a bad father, rather than have no father. So he didn't rat him out.

It's also probably a similar mechanism to why so many women remain in abusive relationships.

He didn't need to be wet to blow up the sub. I think he found a way to submerge it and set off the explosion to make the Others believe he blew it up.

You know, that's not a bad idea.....but how could he submerge the thing, and get out without it flooding with water and sinking?

He could set it to dive and climb out of the hatch before it had even submersed, probably, and worst case, after only a small amount of water had entered.

I'll buy the writers a round of beers if during the next episode Locke simply shoots his "dad".

I do wonder however if there will be any ramifications amongst the Others regarding the submarine. Probably not, except the blonde who was getting a ride with Jack.

Ben's eyes change color...

Maybe it reflects his level of evil ebullience.

I think Locke's wetness was simply an inconsistency and nothing to worry about. Maybe he got sweaty placing the bomb or something. But I'm bet the sub is good and sunk.

How often have such things cropped up? In a show fraught with mystery, unintentional red herrings are a bad sign.
