Got paid yesterday (well, as close to 'paid' as you can get on disability). Seeing as I was to try out a (as yet) unpublished RPG (
Fantasy Imperium) I decided to pick up a few goodies at the store. These being:
GURPS: Dragons (Steve Jackson Games): Phil Master's look at the beast of myth, legend, and chintzy dungeon crawls.
Iron Kingdoms Character Guide (Privateer Press): If you are a crunch monkey this aint the book for you. Lotsa meat, lots of description and expository goodness. There are pages devoted to the calenders. And its treatment of non-humans is very different. Gobbers (a type of goblin) are good guys. Elves have problems.
Living Fantasy (Troll Lords): In which Colonel Pladoh imparts advice and wisdom most any world or adventure design could use.
The Extraordinary Book of Names (Troll Lords): Malcolm Bower's look at names around the world and how they or a variant thereof could be used in an RPG. Includes random tables for fantasy names which look like a lot of fun.
Also picked up
Dungeon 114,
Dragon 322, and
Signs and Portents 11.
Of the books, if I had to choose I'd go with IKCG. Meaty, with tons of good art. My second choice would be G

. Also lots of meat for the page count (160) and the art of Alex Fernandez. Yes, a GURPS book with good art. And Alex does a nice komodo dragon head (p26)
BTW, I got LF and EBoN for 25% off cover price. If you are in or will be in the San Diego CA area sometime in the near future, Game Towne at Harney and Congress is having a sale on the old d20 (3e) books. 20% off for one, 25% off for two, and 30% off for three or more. I spotted only one copy of
The Extraordinary Book of Names but they did have an extra copy of
Living Fantasy. If you're looking to add to your collection this is a golden opportunity.
So that's what I got for this month.
