M3: Assassin's Knot (Patlin judging)

[sblock]Rinaldo finds himself outclassed. He does strike Abraham another blow with the sap, a heavier hit this time, but the sword slash stikes harder (13 pts dmg - Rinaldo down to 5 hps).

I'll assume Rinaldo then 'withdaws' as opposed to double moves - which would give Abraham an AoO.[/sblock]

The party advances. Before they can reach pass through the unlocked door to the staff quarters, Abraham bursts out at a full run, wearing his red vest, the attire Rinaldo had assumed. He is pursued by another Abraham, dressed in night shirt and night cap and weilding a longsword. This second Abraham shouts "Stop him! He's an assassin!"

OOC: I won't put up a map, yet, but anyone in the party could attempt to stop Abraham #1 or to block the way of Abraham #2 or speak.

Eanos, human monk

"Stop!" Eanos calls out, reaching out to grab at Abraham #1, though he "trips" in the process and fails, stumbling into the path of Abraham #2 instead.

"What is going on??" Nurlan asks, feigning confusion. He turns his head from one Abraham to the other. "Abraham... Abraham?" He does not move to stop anyone.

Edit: Bluff check 13+5=18 (for feigning confusion)

Abraham #1 dashes through the company and heads out the back door (where he doffs his disguise.) Abraham #2 is already slowing down by the time Eanos 'stumbles' in front of him. He backs off a few steps from the party. He eyes the group suspiciously. "Staying out late, were you?"

Behind him, Glami the bearded cook bustles out in night clothes, holding a dagger. "What's going on?"

"An assassin diguised himself as me, to come kill me. The bastards." Abraham curses. "Glami, get some clothes on and go fetch Balmorrow. Tell him to come at once."

He turns back to the party. "What did you lot see?"

"Just you and the guy who looked like you. I swear, by Grendath's laugh, that he was the spitting image of you. I heard you cry "assassins", came to see what the matter was, and thought I saw two copies of you."

[SBLOCK]OOC: Rinaldo is outside now? If yes, is there any exit I could use without bringing attention and able to join the group as if I was coming from my room? If I can, I go back into my room by the window, take a potion of CLW, hide my wounds with the hat and go to sleep.[/SBLOCK]

Prepared to feign surprise at the scene, Ashnar doesn't have to work hard at the sight of Abraham chasing Rinaldo with a longsword.
Let's see if we can get a bit of information, here.

Abraham said:
"Staying out late, were you?"
"It is that late already? I was not paying attention to the sky..." Ashnar feigns an absent-minded scholar.

Abraham said:
"What did you lot see?"
"Well, the same as master Nurlan here. Odd, that. Well, if it is that late, I guess I better...." Ashnar begins to turn away, towards his own room. And now, the big question. he thinks to himself and stops. Still the absent-minded scholar, he asks "Sir, Master Abraham, there is another thing I do not quite understand. Mind you, I trust your judgement, and this is in no way meant to question your abilities - but why are you so certain this... person was an assassin? I mean, please don't misunderstand - but you are an Innkeeper, and not a king or admiral. Not someone who would be a prime assassination target... and this town really does not strike me as one where assassinations would be common...?"

Eanos, human monk

Eanos, feigning frustration at having "missed" his quarry, perks up at the mage's question. They may not have gotten the trap door question answered, but there may yet be some knowledge to be gained.

[sblock=OOC]Sense Motive on Abraham's answer?[/sblock]

[sblock]I assume Mordik has not been spotted, and if so, the following is what he does.[/sblock]
Mordik stays to the shadows, trying his best to keep an ear and eye out for what's happening as well as anyone else that might be in the tunnels.

Abraham

Rinaldo is able to exit the inn. He sees no one in the dark, and releases his disguise. He then drinks his potion, and sneaks back into his room and goes to bed.

Abraham holds his postion defensively eyeing the party. "This town is more dangerous than you guess. I know not the details, but there are assassins in this town. I grew up here, and I would keep it a peaceful, prosperous community. But I fear my investigations have made me a target." He sighs.

"Perhaps I must leave this place. But in any case, I suspect you are safe for tonight. I suggest you all go to bed and lock your doors. Do not travel at night. Complete your business and go."

Eanos has no reason to doubt Abraham believes his words.
