[Magic System] Crystal casters & Eco-wizards

Wo I haven't been on ENWorld in years! Its good to be back :D I've recently had a rush of creative energy and I've been getting my DMing plans and a group together again after a long period of quiet. I'm looking for a bit of systems assistance with an idea I have.



My fantasy campaign setting has two types of magic casters. Those who touch with the life force of the ecosystem are one. They draw on their kinship with the "living force" and channel it into spells. If they use it carefully it can benefit the ecosystem, but in contrast if they are greedy it acts to suck the life force from the world around them (ala DarkSun) killing the vegetation and deadening the land.



The second kind are spellcasters who utilise living crystals native to my world. They find and bond a crystal which needs to be kept near them. The crystal will have a certain amount of energy it can build up which the caster then draws on to cast their spells. Better or bigger crystals allow for more spells or stronger spells. That way as the character levels up they'll need to find stronger crystals. The crystal recharges when not being used so it doesnt "run out". (I'm assuming I'll just use rest mechanics for this)



Just wondering of those with a longest history with homebrews and the various systems out there if there are any previous models I can draw on? Obviously would need to modify it to fit with 5e (or if I'm lazy ill stick with good old 3.5e heh)
