Not really their decision, is it? The New Republic they have to portray is the one that allowed the First Order to sprout up right under their noses, then failed to act against it to the extent that an independent resistance militia had to be formed. That's not something that happened overnight, so its roots have to exist at this point in the timeline. They sure have decided the New Republic is bad, haven't they?
The Emperor was able to take power because he offered an alternative to the corrupt and inefficient bureacracy of the Republic. And he wasn't wrong. The Empire didn't really last very long, and as soon as the Rebellion brought down the Emperor, the corrupt and inefficient Republic bureacracy reasserted itself. Not really their decision, is it? Yeah, honestly it's hard to believe the Republic managed to stay in power for thousands of years prior to the Clone Wars - especially when you read / play through some of the Old Republic material and realise they had the same problems back then. The Emperor was able to take power because he offered an alternative to the corrupt and inefficient bureacracy of the Republic. That's actually one of my frustrations with the Star Wars universe, it seems to bounce back and forth between authoritarianism and corrupt bureacratic democracy with very little in-between. It's only those "rebels" who work outside the system who are the heroes.

That's basically the viewpoint in the Imperial Agent storyline in the Old Republic MMO - that the Sith Empire is a well-organised government and society that would function really well, if it wasn't for all the Sith.Maybe what the GFFA needs is an Empire not run by Sith Lords and their racist, power-hungry minions.
LOL a dynamic that played out when me and my wife played it and I played Imperial Agent and she played Sith Inquisitor and there were so many times we rolled off on what was going to be said in a cutscene and the roll was often between like:That's basically the viewpoint in the Imperial Agent storyline in the Old Republic MMO - that the Sith Empire is a well-organised government and society that would function really well, if it wasn't for all the Sith.
I'd agree with that assessment. I still go back to it occasionally, strictly for the single-player content. She later described it as "The best MMORPG I ever played" lol.
