Just like the original mini-comics that came with the dol-... er... action figures, have the high-tech stuff be the artifacts of a prior age (not totally unlike Thundarr).

I wish they'd gone with the original comics when they developed the later cartoon and comics, myself. Rather than go with the whole "Prince Adam/He-Man" secret identity stuff that came along (which, IIRC, actually appeared in a one-shot He-Man/Superman comic before the cartoon ever came out). I realize they were going for a kids cartoon, but to me the original source material was so much better than the stuff they developed later on. It would have lent itself to a more adult interpretation, if they wanted, plus it just seemed a much more rich area to mine for mythology, stories, etc.

And the original mini-comics alluded to a much larger world. There were barbarian tribes (where He-Man hailed from), high-tech societies (where Man-at-Arms hailed from), an evil dimension inhabited by Skeletor's people...
