Do you think (considering the assumptions below) that Jedi are balanced with 3E Wiz?

Before voting, consider these assumptions:

1) Both are using a VP/WP system (so that Jedi can actually use their powers with little changes)

2) Rule out the possibility of divine spellcasters (so no clerical healing spells)

3) No lightsabers. The Jedi would be using standard D&D weapons like a longsword or bastard sword, and would be forced to select a specific type of sword to apply his bonus damage to beginning at first level.

4) Jedi are restricted as per the normal rules for the Light Side and Dark Side.

Considering the above assumptions, are the Jedi classes and skills from d20 Star Wars balanced against a D&D Wizard using standard D&D spells?

The jedi would get owned. you cant take away his lightsaber when that is what they rely on for combat. it would be fairly even from about level 1-3.

How is a Jedi getting owned if he's still getting his bonus damage, but he has to select a weapon at first level to apply it to? The big deal about a lightsaber is it's 2d8 damage (which is almost an insta-kill in a critical situation, and nearly a guaranteed death sentence when wielded by a 8th level+ Jedi with their bonus damage). Otherwise it's just another sword -- a dual-wielding ranger can get nearly equivalent damage with a longsword and short sword.

Does the Jedi get to deflect attacks with whatever weapon you're giving him? It seems skewed against the Jedi since you're taking away his lightsaber...but not taking anything from the Wizard. If you have to do that, it should prove to you who's more powerful in the first place.

It depends on what Jedi class you're talking about. The offensive and utility powers of a Jedi Consular are insignificant compared to the powers of a wizard. However, a Jedi Guardian would be even better than a fighter or barbarian at taking out the wizard. He has phenomenal mobility, good saves, a fair number of bonus feats, potent buffing powers, and handy powers like telekinesis.

The question also depends on what rules set you're using. Does the Jedi get the same magic item compiment that a D&D character of the same level would get? Is the Jedi's Deflect ability able to deflect missile weapons and spells which have attack rolls? Is there clerical healing that could replenish a Jedi's VPs faster than resting?
