Mental excercise.

Another thought: wouldn't dropping the water from a height simply increase the kinetic energy of the water instead of raising its temperature? At least, until the water hits terminal velocity. If only 10% of the energy created goes to increasing the temperature of the water, it would have to be dropped from 10 times as high.
