So mithril is often refered to as star silver, true silver, etc.

Can you see any reason Not to allow mithril to by pass DR Silver?

(It costs more to offset the lack of the -1 damage silver weapons have so that seems fair to me.)

I would say no. Although it may be called star silver I think its still just a name. There are not anymore connections between gold and silver then mythril. But come to think of it this is all just opinion.

hey I don't have a problem with calling it "mythril" since it is a "mythological metal" :D heheh

"Mithril, mythril, mithral, star silver, true silver," this stuff has more names than "adamant, adamantine, adamantium, metoeric iron." (unless you count.."Gromril" but Games Workshop probably has that one copyrighted!;)

Note that mithral is much more endurable than alchemical silver. It might be OK, but I think you'd have to increase the price for mithral.

OK so it's not Silver but would a magic weapon say a +1 longsword bypass the DR and if so does this mean that natural enhancement bonuses due to special material have no effect on DR.. i.e. Mithral has a natural enhancment bonus of +1, adamantine +2.

My understanding of DR was that a weapon of equal or better bonus could bypass the DR.. am I wrong here or do enhancement bonuses do nothing when the DR is wrt a special material??

afaik there's no natural enhancement bonus because of the material of a weapon.

And damage reduction can only be penetrated by weapons that fulfill the condition after the slash. So even an epic magical sword wouldn't penetrate the damage reduction of a monster with DR 5/silver.

You can find the SRD file about it here
