[MoF] Favor of Ilmater + Monstrous Regeneration

Nono. At the part of where it says Level: Cleric 4 (Ilmater).

Meaning, Only a Cleric of Ilmater may cast this.

Except that's not what that means.

That simply means that the clerics of Ilmater originally created the spell, but it has since been adopted by the other religions.

This is explained on page 68 of the Magic of Faerun, in the Origin section.

Yeah, really. I mean, if only Antimagic and dead magic exhisted, the game wouldn't be totally broken and worth a complete recall and reprint. ;)

I say to that, Rule 0.

Makes playing a priest of a paticular god a little more important.

Otherwise, we have a 7th level troll that's now not going to turn to jelly. Slap on a Protection from Fire and Acid, and boom, hard to kill lil' sucker.

Unless of course the party has a dispel magic spell handy.

Yeah, if only it wasn't within the GM's abilities to suddenly make every encounter coincidentally occur in a dead magic zone, or against a mage or cleric, then the combo wouldn't be broken.

If only certain people would lighten up...come on Saeviomagy, recognize the humor for what it is and not some twisted-evil-DM-slaughter-all-of-the-players-no-matter-how-well-prepared-they-might-be-because-all-of-your-NPCs-are-perfectly-outfitted-to-completely-counter-any-move-the-PCs-make. :)

It you were making a joke, then please excuse me for making an [bleep!] outta myself. :D

Without reading the text of Favor of Ilmater, I'm stabbing here...

... but could one read it that the spell grants immunity to subdual damage from a subdual source, whereas real damage converted to subdual by regeneration still goes through?

That sounds like a reasonable way to handle it!

When my players brought up this combo. I thought about it then stated

"It clearly states Cleric 4 (Ilmater) Even if the text says you can use it for other dieties , why would a diety of destruction care about subdual damage? What doesn't kill his cleric makes him stronger.

Think of the diety in question, then apply what fits with his ethos.
