More concerns over hit points

Random rolling doesn't bother me if that is what everyone else in my group is doing. Shoot, just rolled hit points for my level up to 4th on my Pathfinder and rolled a 1. Eh, the character will live, not as cool as rolling an 8, but still - really not a big deal.

If random rolling really is a major sticking point this is such an easy thing to tweak via module or house rule...

Yes it can. And that's a good thing.
Totally depends on the player. I played a 4th level monk in 3e with 11 hp (and we got to reroll the first 1 on each HD, meaning six 1's in a row). I played it, adapted, had fun. I've seen other players torpedo their character after one or two bad HD rolls because for them it just isn't worth it.

Fortunately, very easy house rule.

How?

I have seen players rage quit in frustration. No slant on their personalities, they just invested their heart and soul into their character, only to see it crapped on a couple of months into play. The point of the game is to have fun. Its NOT fun when one stupid dice roll sours the entire experience for you.

Now, if you and your player base enjoy this happening to you, good luck and more power to you. I wont tell you that you must adopt static HP per level...go roll your HP and have fun doing it.

But please, dont just say "Its a good thing" as if you know what is best for me and my group. You dont.

Your barbarian will be like any other barbarian mechanically. Nothing to remember him by. Isn't that a shame? Wouldn't you rather have a barbarian who is one heck of a badass because he has so much more HPs than any other? Or, even if he has few HPs, wouldn't you even prefer to be that barbarian that shined even through his weakness, showing what courage really means when he dives headfirst into melee? Or what intelligence is, when he decides that diving headfirst is not the best solution? I hope my barbarian is remembered, when all is said and done.

Random HP is too much stress on game and combat balance, a barbarian is REQUIRED to suffer certain amount of damage in a given fight. It's his job, he either drops his opponents or they drop him(personal heal bot does help here).

Barbarian can try to fight inteligently...until he rages, then it's just: rage, charge, power attack, cleave...repeat.

It's a good thing because it rewards those lucky enough to roll high. Those are the characters that are remembered and stories are told about 30 years later - those with the 100 hit points, the 18 (00) strength, etc.

Every fighter having the same hit points is boring. One of the most fun characters I ever played was a multiclass cleric/mu with ONE hit point.

And hell, give everyone 10,000 hit points at your table, I couldn't care less, but keep your homogenization out of the core rules, please. Static hit points is fine as an option, but horrible as the default.

That's funny. I like to reward good play. But if you think luck is to "be rewarded" ok then.

Yea, cause I want a game with 10,000 HP. Great comment, just awesome.

HP is your means of preventing homoginization? Seriously. Mine is well defined classes and backgrounds, with excellent thought our themes and backstories intermingled with a strong plot in a mature campaign.

I didnt realize people used HP for avoiding homoginizing. Sorry for stepping on your toes there.

Static hit points is fine as an option.
Well, at least that we agree on. Im only asking for the option, not the put down and insults for having asked in the first place.

what about 2 options? rolling or take average? its not that hard. Constitution as a safeguard for those who are rolling?

Or a high enoug safeguard, that you are not hosed if you roll low. There are worse things in life than rolling bad on hp... (although rolling low is unfun)
