Healing Belts and Helms of Glorious Recovery from MIC. That and a wand of CLW as backup means you don't need a cleric.

I completely agree. But, the OP was talking about changing the way damage is done, instead of it being a wound issue, it became a morale/surrender issue -- if I understood properly.

Kind of how you see in some video games -- you have a boss fight, and at a certain percentage, he just surrenders, let's say.

I don't know that the belts and helms fix the situation as he wrote about it; they spread the burden, that's for sure. And then you've shifted from needing a cleric to needing someone with Charisma and Use Magic Device for the wands.

The games I've played in, I've seen people switch to and from a 2h fighting style to sword-and-board, or two-weapon with the same character. We had a player we teased because of his 'golfbag of doom' -- he collected one weapon of every special material in the game world, because then he'd always be able to hurt things.

Yes, there's a sense of confusion or inner debate if you're a TWF character and find this insanely powerful 2h weapon. But, I've played with people that, if it made sense for their character (to want to be more powerful) or for story reasons (it was their heirloom weapon), they'd switch.

I believe the number of Feats allowed for characters should be greatly increased somehow.
Perhaps a set of Feats can be taken as a package, assuming a certain background?
Perhaps additional Feats can be taken in return for Drawbacks?
Perhaps 1 feat per level?

With a thousand Feats available, it'd be nice for a character to have at least 2 or 3% of them!

Just a thought.

Opening a thread on this topic is interesting, but opening six threads inside on ten minutes is spamming.

I've merged the threads rather than closing them, since it sounds like you've put some thought into it. Please don't open multiple threads on closely related subjects all at once, though, please!

I like the concept of the will to fight, and morale, etc. But, I think using it as a reason to ditch the cleric class, and all of its roles - warrior, scholar, etc - isn't exactly something I agree with.

Just my humble opinion.

Keep the scholar, warrior, etc. roles--but ditch the in-combat bandaid role. :)

Whoops! Sorry. Multiple opening posts in one thread is a better presentation. :)

Zarathustran, we're on opposite sides of the HP question (Will to fight v. Damage tolerance), but your view of them is highly preferable to the view intended in the PHB: A series of special factors that are already spoken for by other game mechanics, and far better thereby as well.

I like nearly all of your suggestions! The primary exception is the cleric one. The rest are quite doable.
