[Mor's End] OOC: Questions and comments please post here

Hmm... I better hold off... I just had a publisher asked me to contribute to a project off of something I did in Rogues Gallery. So dedication may be a problem. For now, I'll just keep posting NPCs, they're a nice diversion at my real job (phone in tech support sucks horribly, but I least I get 8 hours online out of it :) )

Hey... can we put a zoo in the city? Always wanted a D&D zoo, with mainly mundane creatures, but the odd magical beast might pop up.

The first idea on that matter was a permanent circus outside the city. I would say on the north riverbank east of the city or somewhere along the north palissade.

The zoo might be too big for the city and a crowded place just outside has a lot of other advantages (ask the thieve's guild or any spy/diplomat around).

If you guys still need a Minister of Guilds, I guess I could volunteer. I really shouldn't, but I find myself posting here so frequently that I might as well. ;)

Here's what I have in mind:

I would start a new thread on "Guilds and organizations" (just to cover things like city guard etc as well). I figure this would fill a niche in between the "Government" and the "crafts" threads.

I would start out posting 10 or so empty posts at the top of the thread to be filled in with individual guilds and organizations. Then, since I like the demographics guidelines from the DMG and "A Magical Medieval Society", I would post the relevant statistics for each group as a framework:

- max class levels for the leaders
- number of people with relevant classes
- number of people with relevant professions

For an example, see my last post on the Government Affairs thread about the size of the city guard/military.

I totally don't mind deviating from those numbers if we have a reasonable justification (e.g. obviously we will have a much larger number of potters and silk merchants than the average city), but they do provide useful ballpark values.

Then we can open up for submission to fill in the details for those guilds and/or to propose new guilds. Entries from the NPC thread could refer to the Guilds in this thread, and the heads of the guilds/organizations would be woven into the Government thread...

That sound reasonable?

Y'all still want me as minister? ;)

Was just whipping up a few generic Com1 for some mundane jobs, and when I got to ropemaker, something occurred to me...

Would watersilk rope have different stats than normal silk rope?
And would it even be used in rope?

Hmm. If Mor's End is the only source of Watersilk in the world, then I don't see them wasting it on rope. Clothing, tapestries, rugs, bedding and so forth, yes. Mundane items like rope, no. There is far more money to be had in the luxury trade than in utility items.

So let's say no, you can't use watersilk for rope. Maybe it's too slippery or something.

Silkers Circle Meeting Notes:

Galvan: "So, how did it go with the ropemaking?"
Ishto: "The Watersilk Rope is exceptionally strong."
Galvan: "Better than regular silk?"
Ishto: "Absolutely... much more superior than regular silk... but"
Galvan: "That's great... we'll corner the market on rope, too!"
Ishto: "...but, there is a minor problem..."
Galvan: "Problem...?"
Ishto: "It's as slippery as oil... Even with knots tied, we couldn't find one person that could climb the rope..."
Galvan: "Well that doesn't seem to be too much of problem..."
Ishto: "Well, there is the flip side of that... Once a knot is tied... it can't be undone unless you cut the rope."
Galvan: "Have you devised a workaround for this problem?"
Ishto: "Yes... I recommend we continue using regular silk... it's cheap anyway..."
