MotW: Forsaker

By destroying magical items, you get a DR for 24 hours (meaning you need to destroy stuff every day). At 3rd level, your weapons are treated as natural weapons for purposes of overcoming others DR. So, if your DR is high enough, you can get through others DR.

Remember, you need to destroy X gp every day for this to apply that day.

Yeah, 100gp per point of DR PER DAY.

Its an impossible restriction, that pretty much eliminates the viability of the class.

I think I may have to buy or borrow MOTW just to see that PRC.

I have a "borrowed from a Complete Wizards Handbook" idea for a wizard varient that can't use magic items period...

This Forsaker would be perfect for the wizards elite guard.

How about if he just busts some stuff up before he knows he's going to get in a fight? Or right as it starts? The afternoon before he and his brothers are going to raid that traitorous wizard's tower?

It's all about planning.

He doesn't have to do it every day, just the days that he wants the DR. And it's only a 100gp per point. at 10th level that's only 1100gp. That's a few potions or scrolls. No need destroying the paladins +5 holy avenger or the Mage's staff of thunder and lightning. Well, unless you really want to.....

That was my take on it as well. A PC as this Prc would cause havoc by attempting to destroy magic items during combat or at the end of it before players could start claiming it.

I figure after the second time this happened the party make would shove a lightning bolt up the guys arse while he was sleeping.

Maybe it might find some use as a villain (some sort of twisted take on the Spanish Inquisition?) but I can't help but think this PrC would play havoc with party unity.

Maybe....but they'd still have to overcome his SR. And he sure wouldn't be a happy camper when he wakes up!

I'm sorry. If I was to play a class that had to give up all forms of magical assisstance, I wouldn't want my class abilities to shut off at the DMs whim. And considering that DR is just about all of the Forsakers abilites... Its definately an NPC class.

I seriously doubt the guys SR will keep up with the parties mages ability to overcome it.

The SR of the class is less of a real defence and more of a hope and prayer. It's 10 + Level of Forsaker. So even if you get this class really early and max it out at level 13, a 20 SR at level 13 is not that impressive.

I'm not quite sure how you reach the conclusion that "DR is uust about all of the forsaker's abilities".

The +1 stat increase every level, the spell resistance, the improved saves, and the rapid healing seem to be more than minor abilities to me. The DR, while very useful, is only really necessary when you are fighting creatures with DR, so that you can actually damage them.

That being said, I don't really like the fact that the DR has to be powered by destroying magic items every day either. It means that Forsaker is going to want to keep a few thousand gp worth of magic items available to destroy (in case he get's jumped by a creature with DR, or needs DR himself), instead of destroying them as he finds them, as he would supposedly desire to.

It seems to almost force you to go against the class concept if you want to be useful.
