Movies that have you fascinated the most!

So, I don't care which is the best movie ever. There are many excellent movies, and some people agree or not, and, and...

Well, I want to know if you have watched some movie(s) that really fascinated you, so you would watch them over and over. Of course, I speak mostly for people with VHS or DVD collections there.

I will begin:

Of all my DVDs there is one I won't say this is the best movie ever. It's a good action movie, but that's all. Nonetheless, I watched it over and over again, being fascinated by it. Where Eagles Dare, a film with Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood, during the WWII a commando attack a nazi fortress in the middle of Bavaria. I did see it so many time that I have go to notice all the incoherences (and there are so many!) that you don't see at first viewing. Anyway, I am fascinated by this movie, and watched it more than 30 times, and cannot really say why. Probably a mixture of seeing the mountains under snow, the grim ambiance, the drama, Clint Eastwood, action, etc., well.

I got to see Dark City a dozen times during the first week I had the DVD. I was really fascinated by it then. But since then I din't see it again.

On the other hand, despite LotR trilogy (extended version) is so good, I don't feel the need to have watched all the three more than a couple of times.

I like to think of films like this as mindscrew flicks. The short list includes:

Fight Club
Dark City
Donnie Darko
Sixth Sense
Unbreakable
Pulp Fiction

They are basically films that just make me think. They are also movies that repeat viewings you can see a different angle to it.

Oddly enough, Star Trek VI falls into this same category. I've always felt that it was an undistinguished landmark film for science fiction for some reason but could never put my finger on it completely.

John Crichton's list sums up my thoughts perfectly.

Get the Hell out of my head.

Oh, add Being John Malkovich and The Matrix (There Are No Sequels) to the list.

Oooh. Fight Club. It was on the telly the other day. I never get tired of this movie!

Memento is another movie that demands to be watch again and again.

There was an older movie that I wish I could remember the name of, it starred the Davin (what is his last name) guy from the Knight Stalker TV show, the movie was about a conflict about two superpowers over a piece of hardware lost at sea, to resolve the issue they agreed to send one man each to an island to combat each other, first came out right gun fights, then moved to securing/traping areas, then respect, discussion and understanding. It ended with both governments cheating and sending in another man, Davin kills his replacement, then seeks vengence on the replacement of his foe, he ends up dying from topical infection with his foe who dies from wounds recieced from his replacement!

Great movie.

Don't know the movie, but his name is Darren McGavin.

A movie that I really enjoy is Contact, with Jodie Foster. Not sure why.

Another vote for Fight Club here. I'd also say that Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway, both from David Lynch, made me sit back and do a lot of thinking.

Starman

IMDB suggests "The Challenge": "All-out war between the United States and an Asian country is averted when the two sides agree to settle their differences by each choosing a single soldier as champion and having the two men fight to the death on an isolated island."
