For a primarily synthesizer-based band, they do a really good live show. David Gahan's charismatic stage presence being primarily the factor there, I think. Of course, they switch to a lot more live instruments too--they had two tour musicians they hired, including a live drummer, and Martin Gore just hangs out with his guitars. Fletch stands there behind his keyboard, but he's a charisma non-entity anyway. The live versions aren't always the same as the studio versions either; they meandered through a handful of guitar solos, and a really rockin' drum solo at one point too, and they make other subtler changes here and there at times.Jdvn1 said:Cool wife, Joshua, and cool tickets. I dont' think I'll ever see Depeche Mode live, but I'll live with my CDs.![]()
They also hired a tour musician keyboardist too, to get all the synthlines out there live instead of pre-recorded, I suppose. And Martin Gore had probably the stupidest hat I've ever seen when he first came out; it was a knit cap with big earflaps and a mohawk (!) down the middle. He didn't really wear it that long, though, and besides, he's notorious for looking stupid at live shows from what I've heard.

Oh, and did I mention they had a topless picture of some blond chick in braids on the jumbotron during "I Feel You?" You don't get that from listening to your CDs...
