My wife is AWESOME!, i.e. my surprise Depeche Mode concert

So that's why Chapter 3 hasn't been posted yet! :p ;)
Partly, yes. I decided I wasn't very happy with it, so I scrapped it and started from scratch, but I've been too busy to really get to it as I'd like.

That's very cool, JD. Happy birthday and congrats on the cool wife and concert.

My wife got to see and meet Depeche Mode when we were in Texas. She has a photo of her and David Gahan. This was before we were dating, though we knew each other. She was dating a DJ from a local radio station (which is how she got backstage tickets); I refer to that time period as her "groupie days".

I don't know if Depeche Mode still have groupies or not. I have to admit I was extremely curious what kind of people go to see Depeche Mode in 2005. I mean, yeah, I know they've got a new CD out that's fairly popular, but still.

Sure enough, almost everyone there looked like they were high school students in the 80s, with very few exceptions.

It was also the whitest crowd I've ever seen in Detroit. It may be the whitest crowd the Palace has ever seen. :)

Well, at least you didn't throw a beer on Martin Gore, then have him jump into the crowd and start punching people.

I wouldn't kill to see Depeche Mode live, but I would seriously consider it.

For days.

Best. Band. Ever.

Isn't it cool when the women we marry remind us that they actually GET what makes us tick? I think that's like the best feeling ever.

I'm reminded of the thread I posted just before I left for GenCon about how I was getting ready for the long drive up to Charlottesville and then on to Indy. There was a CD that I'd mentioned really wanting and just a couple hours before I'm leaving, my wife hands it to me and says, "Here's something to listen to on the ride." Great woman that I married.

Good for you too, JD. ;)

I agree. Sadly, there's no stop in Iceland. Do any of these venues work at all for you? http://www.depechemode.com/tour/dates.html

Oh, yeah, absolutely. Of course, in this case, it didn't hurt that she's a fan of Depeche Mode too. We were listening to their CDs in the car on the way to and from the Palace (it's a good half hour/forty five minute drive from our house) and she was singing along to "Enjoy the Silence" I think, and then said, "I used to have that song memorized!"

I said, "Uh, honey, you just sang along for the entire song and didn't miss a beat. You still have it memorized." :D

That is totally sweet, JD. You've got yourself a good woman!!!

It makes me wish I could post about the Christmas surprise that I've got planned for The Universe so that you could all marvel at the wonders of a nerd-tastic wife... but, he'll read it so I can't. *grins*

What, you gonna invite me? :p

Anywhere in Scandinavia or Britain would be possible, really. It's relatively cheap,
as such, but it's all still a bit out of a poor student's reach. Perhaps if this were
post-next-summer, then I could do it, as then I'd have plenty of disposable income.

I plan to see them some day. I hope they don't die, or split up (again), first.
