Star Trek: Insurrection

The story centers on the peaceful Ba'ku, whose planet contains youth-restoring properties coveted by the evil Son'a race and a Federation admiral. Capt. Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his crew are called in when Data (Brent Spiner), assigned to study the Ba'ku, suddenly goes berserk. The mission takes an unexpected turn when Picard discovers the Son'a are plotting to forcibly remove the Ba'ku from the planet. Outraged, Picard must choose between defying a Starfleet order and violating the Prime Directive, which forbids interference with the evolution of a culture.

The Prime Directive was written to only cover primative pre-warp cultures. This was expanded of course in ST: TNG to include all cultures but that is really besides the point.

Wasn't a terribly good movie. Typical very goodie race vs typical very evil race, blah blah blah. Would have made an ok episode on TV, but certainly not worth paying for at a theatre. IMO

Have to agree with Dragongirl on this one.

My personal opinion is that this seemed so much like a standard tv episode (or maybe the tv episodes are so cinematic in effect that we're lulled and expect too much from the movies ;).

Anyway, yes, I enjoyed watching that one on tape or tv more than I did in the threatre.

(For point of reference, I enjoyed First Contact more.. it felt more like a "Big Deal" than this did.... I wasn't too fond of Generations, but, truthfully, I don't remember the movie well enough to remember why I didn't like it that much :)

I find that true of most TV series that go to theatre. The old Star Trek movies for the most part were corny, ST TNG movies for the most part felt like TV episodes, X-Files movie was boring, etc.

What would you consider corny about ST2 or ST6?

STII and STVI are the kinds of movie that belong on the big screen, as is ST:The First Contact.

STIV may be corny now, but it wasn't when it opened in 1984(?). That's when it is a big thing to be aware of our environment. So the mainstream audience like the "save the whale" story. In fact, this movie netted more box office income than any of the Trek film.

STI:TMP would be too cerebral for any screen, big and small. Such movie would only be of interest to die-hard fans ... like me.

With the exception of the above, the other films are better off as TV-movies, IMHO.
