NC Game Day (Dates posted for NCGDVI-VII on top of page 16)

Looking forward to the next one.

I had loads of fun in both games on Saturday!

And I have not so much a quote as a visual to sum up this Game Day's Shadowrun experience: Riding at night in a rented truck tricked out with twinkling xmas lights and roof-mounted coatl bobble-head figurines, following a trail of empty whiskey bottles across the desert toward a suspected rebel outpost while blasting mariachi music on the 8-track. Oh yeah, and the guy driving the truck is drunk.

We were laughing so hard I'm surprised we could roll the dice!

And that's not to steal anything away from the Orcz! game. There was plenty of laughter there too: whether it was the orcish "wizard" charging naked into a hail of arrows while swinging his greatclub, or the orcish beastmaster riding on a stolen giant butterfly over the battle, or confused reaction of the castle guards when they got shot with a geyser of urine! Good times all around!

And like Clueless, I have to be interested in the possibility of prizes.

I saw Mark's message at the last minute but it got completely overshadowed by my rush to make sure that Jeph's players knew his game was cancelled. I should be able to pull e-mail addresses for all the participants off of the Game Day website and get them to Mark in the next couple of days. I will make an announcement over at the Game Day site to that effect later today and anybody who doesn't wish their name to be sent in for the free prizes can post about it in a thread I'll set up over there.

It sounds like everybody had a pretty good time and I'm glad. If anybody has suggestions about how we can make the next and future game days better, please post about it here or at the Game Day site.

Thanks again to all who attended.

"Yes! All your bases are being owned by us!" - Infamous Italian Cat Burglar Dominic Liberati
"Jesus, Dom, it's 'All your Base are BELONG to us!' Even I know that!" - Matt Willis, former Park Ranger

"Can you use your skills to take the guards out silently?" - Miguel Calderon, Technician and Capoeira dancer
"So, by this, do you mean you want me to kill them?" - Dominic Liberati, Infamous Italian Cat Burglar and now assassin
"The Madre is not around, so yes, this is EXACTLY what I mean." - Miguel

It's Monday, and I'm finally back to work, and a little sad that Gameday is only for one day - but fortunately, they keep on coming regularly!

I had a great time, couldn't have asked for a better GM, and couldn't have asked for better players.

The Eberron game I think went well, and I think Belenumeria's paid the highest compliment a setting can get when he said that there were some elements worth stealing for his own games. :) BelenUmeria's Dwarf was a fun-loving little zealot, who by the grace of Kol Korran couldn't keep upright on the rain-soaked walkway if and when his life depended on it! "Help is on the way, lass!" (run-SPLAT! getup-run-SPLAT! crawl-crawl-crawl...) But Kol Korran was never far from his dwarf's mind, and even healed some enemies while he was busy converting them to the glory of Kol Korran.

Corlon had some fun with his psion, though he (and the playtester who played that character had the same problem - it's very easy to forget to fire up that inertial armor! My favorite line from him was "Don't hurt the halflings! We don't want the watch to - (BACKSTAB!) YEEOW! That's IT! Brain-Fry!"

Alenda had some fun (I think) with keeping up with a poison-using sniper, and keeping him from getting out of sight - keeping up with a goblin with +25 to hide is not easy. Only once did she miss the sniper's "fire and hide" tactic, and when she found him she stayed on him like a garrote on a neck. :)

Kylekatarn has my salute for being the Mark McGuire of Warforged with his greataxe. Max Power Attack really does work well, even the overkill produced when subduing a crowd of rowdy halfling construction workers. ;)

Rel seems to have enjoyed his Artificer - there is quite a satisfying feel about almost ending a fight with one color spray. From my perspective, the Artificers I've seen played have almost a 1950's Batman feel to pulling out just the thing from your bag of tricks and using it to subdue the enemy - which is not necessarily a bad thing. :)

The Chronicles of Carolina were very harrowing, and I know I've never used that many action points in a game. Ever. Thankfully I had almost a score to spend. ;) Fun adventure, fighting cannibals to ensure their ultimate weapon from the ruins of America never got used. And while I'm sure that Devlin Steele would have made a Fine Young Cannibal while attempting to inflitrate them, we enjoyed cracking their skulls instead. RIP mia madre Magdalene O'Connell, spiritual leader of the group and impromptu canonized Patron Saint of Kicking Cannibal Butt.

My regular gaming crew that came with me had good things to say about everyone concerned, and as Torm noted they had a pretty good time with the whole day. I'll see how they feel about attending the next one, when plans line up for that, and I'll definitely be seeing you all there!

So...where is the thread for NC Gameday VI?

I ran Stargate this gameday, and might come back to the same game another GD, but not the next one. Unfortunatly I got there late and my paranoia game just didn't matirialize. Hopefully It will next game day as I think people were interested.

Anyhoo. Here is what I'm going to try or am thinking of offering next time:

Paranoia XP
Viking Age by Avalanche Press -- I am thinking of possably running this during normal Gamer meetings instead.
Shadow Run: Fairy Tales -- I have an idea for a game of SR but it will require that I learn SR ect. Dunno.
A Victorian Ghost Story: A tale of science maddness and the supernatural.

That's my words for now.
Later

Clueless, Gerzel, TGryph, and anyone else that played or DMed in a game with me on Saturday:

What other RPGs do y'all like to play aside from the ones we were in that day? I know Clueless likes Shadowrun, and I remember TGryph was playing another game I had never heard of before after ours, but what else?

I'm trying to decide what I want to run at the next Game Day, and I was pretty happy with the company I was in at this Game Day, so I wanted to try to set up something that you might want to play in. Without any input, I'm leaning toward a Forgotten Realms 3E/3.5E game, but its early on, yet, and could easily change..... :)

Right now there isn't one and there won't be for about another month. History has shown that starting the thread further out than that just leads to a long period of unexciting bumping. As for the date, keep checking back in with this thread late in the week. Neal and I are having lunch on Friday to put the plans for VI in motion.

Also, if there are dates in mid-late January that are absolutely out for you, post them now and I'll try to take that into consideration.

Pictures!

Speaking of which, does anybody know of a good way to edit the quality of these photos I've got? I have some nice looking pictures, but they are all in the 225KB+ size range. And that's too big to post here, right?

There's a Windows XP powertoy that can resize automatically, if you're running XP. It's free off the Microsoft Website. If that won't work, I've got one of the smaller programs (28 MB all told, I believe) that might be of use to you.

Speaking of pics, here's the Tinker Toy Trebuchet from NCSUCodemonkey's Grimm game (ok, so it was K'nex, but that doesn't alliterate), which just rocked hard. I just loved the image of the celestial black bear being pulled down by wind up chattery teeth.

"Here you go. Now lead us to the Not so amazing, not so elusive riddler's apprentice." (Hands leg to one-legged GI Joe type action figure)
"But this is a Ninja Turtle leg!"
"It looks good on you. NOW GO!"
