Need a title- Little help please

Back in the ‘80s (ya, so I am old) I read a book that had an interesting twist, I have been trying to find it, but without a title or author there is no real chance of that.

The only real thing I recall with any amount of detail (given what I recall is very slight) was that there was a character that had a prophecy- everyone believed it. Someone with his last name (which I don’t recall) would defeat the big bad that had been around for decades perhaps longer.

In the background there was a band of characters- adventurer, that were trying to make it rich so they could live the land. One of those characters was a woman that most defiantly had changed her name as soon as the reader gets to know it- so you only know her by her created name.

The book processes and the hero goes to do battle with the big bad, seeming very egotistical as he goes off to kill the big bad, leading an army. In the battle with the big bad his army is cut to pieces by the bad guy’s army, and he faces the villain in single combat, still confident that he can win the day. In the end the bad guy says something like- “enough playing,” and tares the good guy to pieces with a casualness that makes the readers mouth drop open.

There are about five or so chapters after that where the big bad thinks himself immortal- he believed the prophecy too. Finally it comes to the woman, all her friends are dead, the dungeon they are clearing out was actually in the back of the villain’s strong hold. She has to go through because all her companions are dead or so messed up they have to find help. She finds the villain in his bedchamber and realizes who he is, she hasn’t the time to sneak past so she sneaks up behind him and slits his throat.

The last page or two of the book is her and her friends kicking back in a tavern drinking, and talking about what she did. Someone says something like- “well only someone of the X family could have killed him.”

To which she says- “ya, my brother was prophesized to kill him. Heard that my whole life, hell after a while he started believing it.”

The author only said that it was suppose to be someone of their last name that was to kill the bad guy, the brother claimed the right as his when it was actually the sister.

Anyone know what the title of this book is or the author?

does not ring a bump ;)

Emm- either it wasn't read by many, or it was so bad that none will admite to having read it? Or, just maybe I imagined it? Emm- well thank you for reading this, hope someone some where can help out.

Harmon- sorry that I cannot help you. However I recognize the plot you described. About two years ago I was in a restaurant and I over heard two guys talking- they looked like father and son, the youngest was about thirty. He was telling the older guy about this book he read and how he could not remember then name.

Try asking on Usenet. Not sure of the most relevant group... but I was able to find out the name of I series I remembered from my youth.

The series I sought info on was the "Galactic Warlord" series, by the way. Great stories.

I would rathe not drop names of places. I was telling my Dad about this plot a few years ago when he was trying to sell a script, we were sitting in a resturant.

Your elbow had this blue arm wrap on it. I remember thinking you looked like you were in so much pain.

Wow, what a small world :) .

You watched me, you know? The woman sitting alone at a table for two.
