Background (Skip down for question)
So I've been working on a character lately for a much more roleplaying focused game I'll get the privilege of playing in. Its based in a city founded by Spellcasters. You could think of it as a futuristic city (flying cars, computer terminals, PDA like devices) except its ALL powered by magic after this City/Nation's magical revolution (like the industrial revolution and computer revolution rolled into one, except with magic).
My character joined an academy of magic early in life, which is represented by his first 5 levels of Wizard. He is not a specialist Wizard, in fact quite the opposite. He wants to discover the nature of magic itself, and thus not focus on any specific school over any of the others (with small exceptions for the PrC). This has lead me to taking the Incantatrix PrC, the idea being his greater understanding of magic has resulted in his abilities with Metamagic (gotta say, VERY awsome class and exactly what I was looking for).
THE QUESTION
The main question I have that I just seem to not be able to find an answer for ANYWHERE is how this does the class feature Metamagic Spell Trigger work with rods.
I've gone through the research trying to decide which crafting feat to take, and feel like Rods would be the best choice (more power, in terms of the level of spell i can cast, with cheaper crafting cost, compared to Staffs at least). But there in lies the problem. Most all rods are use per day items, which in normal use is pretty cool, but could I expend more daily charges on a rod for the added Metamagic effect. Then would it even be worth it considering most rods have ALOT few charges per day compared to the amount of charges on a standard Wand or Staff.
Just for some added background to the research I've been doing, this is one of the main sources I've been using...
