NetHack and DnD

Yes, this is only a little off topic. Yes, I'm just padding my postcount. But, seriously...

In another thread the idea of eating a statue after casting Stone to Flesh came up, and it's got me wondering. How many other crazy NetHack ideas have been tried in DnD games? How many people have found an artifact by naming a mundane item? Who'd been zapped with a lightning bolt by a god who's altar you kicked? Who's gone up a level by eating a Wraith corpse? Who's found a tin of iguana, or lichen? Who's had to use their vorpal sword as a can opener, or been blinded by a pie to the face?

Has DND ever become an experience in YASD for you?

That idea of turned a normal statue to flesh has come up before. Most GMs I've met would argue that it wouldn't work, since it was never flesh to begin with.

Although, creating a brand new person from the status would be a nifty idea. Probably a bit more powerful than transmute stone to flesh could handle, though...

While making a critter is what StF does to statues in NetHack, I agree it would be a bit much for DnD. I'd say that it would get you a body, that would work, but that had no mind. Perfect for you folks that throw around Magic Jars!

Only this from way back in HS, when we hadn't heard of Nethack (mid-80's) and only had exposure to it's cousin, Rogue, via the IBM PC-XT:

Situation: Players are lost in a cavern between modules D1 and D2, and are out of food.

Me (DM): You are getting hungry.
Player 1: Man, we gotta find something to kill and eat.
Me: You are getting weak.
Player 1: Ok, I look at the wall, anything there?
Me (DM): No. Um, I mean, there is some slime mold.
Player 1: I eat it!
Players 2-4: Eeewwwwww!!
Me: <Rolls dice, references charts.> Roll a save vs. poison.
Player 1: What!!! It works in Rogue!
Me: This ain't Rogue. Save vs. poison, please.

He failed the save, but I just made him sick for d6 turns or something.

Ah, Rogue.. You didn't give him Food Pois? What a lienient GM.

I'm saddened that no one has triedto port Scrolls of Genocide to DnD.

Of course, what do you think made him sick?

If no one else has DnD stories that mirror NetHack, we can move even more off topic and bring up NetHack stories!

I once polymorphed my dog into a Baby Purple Worm. I renamed my pet "Wormy." Wormy was the greatest. If something was giving me a hard time, Wormy swallowed it whole! Buuuurp! Wormy was higher level than I was! Well, I fell through a trap door and wandered around for a while before finally finding my way back to Wormy. I was overjoyed to see him, but, he didn't exactly recognise me...

Wormy swallows you whole! Buuuurp!
