Urgh. Even if CoR is twice as good as Pitch Black, it'll be horrible. I found Pitch Black to be a wretched, wretched movie. Me disliking Vin Diesel's acting doesn't help much, either.

Ok my turn the say some things.
There is planned and made a prequeal anime movie of Riddicks escape and how he his special eyes. A computer game is planned as well.

Spolier Warning
In this movie, we get to find out more about who and what Riddick really is. Riddick is in fact an humaniod alien called a Furyan (the name is a key point to the race) from a planet of the same name. His race a warrior race that has the ability to generate engery field. This be done if two Furyans is rubbing each other's chest. If you watch the new trailer, and see the bust of energy blast, that is the furyans power.

It is also believed (my speculation) that with this power they can move very quickly, at super speed, in combat. The new trailer shows Riddick doing shadows moves (like Jonny Cage's shadow kick in Mortal Kombat games) that shows this power.

Basicly they enegery manipulators and propheiced as the only ones to destroy the Necromongers.

Also the process of him getting his special eyes is revealed that only 2% have surrvied the process, 10% has gone made and 88% have died from the process. This little tibit tells you more how Riddick and his are unique.

He is defantly more than human. Has past, good and bad catches up to him. Yes This info from the offical site from the movie which has link to a special site with more info.

Have you seen any of the other movies he's been in?
Well, yeah.

But Pitch Black was his first "film-carrying" role. First time he had to lay enough on the line to keep an audience going for two hours. And he pulled it off really, really well. And did it again. But then he stumbled majorly with XXX.

Not trying to offer a definitive categorization of Vin Diesel's movie career -- just to explain where I stand with him right now.

Uncertain. Hoping for good things, but cautious.

I think the cautious approach is smart, especially considering writer/director David Twohy's checkered sci-fi career, which includes such catastrophes as Waterworld, The Arrival, and Impostor.

Apparently there's a deal in place to commission two sequels, to be filmed back-to-back, if Chronicles does well.

Riddick and Alignment

I have posted this question to other lists on yahoo. Question is what alignment...whether or not you agree with using alignment or not is not the issue....what alignment is Riddick? Many say N/E in the begining but later more just plain ol' N. I am leaning towards that also. More of a N/E with being "infamous" as per reputation rules that are found in Unearthed Arcana and in the Starwars RPG.

Any thoughts on this? I'd like to hear them.

Despite my occasional bouts of unexpected trolling, Waterworld was not the catastrophe that people like to make it out to be. In addition to not actually being a bad movie, IMHO, it took in 258.2 million dollars worldwide almost ten years ago. When you adjust for inflation, that compares with other reasonably successful movies of today. By comparison, it outperformed Star Wars Episode IV Special Edition, which in itself is considered successful, and it tied in unadjusted dollars with other successful movies, like Scary Movie, Total Recall, The Truman Show, Unbreakable, and XXX, just to name a few. Not bad for a catastrophe

Anyway, on the subject of COR, this is the only movie of the summer that I've been looking forward to for more than just a couple of months. In fact, I've been looking forward to it since I first heard about it shortly after Pitch Black was deemed a success.

Also, this was not Vin Diesel's second choice for a career defining trilogy. He turned down the sequel to the Fast and the Furious so that he could make this movie. This is the project he wanted to make from the beginning.

I'm sure it will be excellent for what it is.

I keep waiting for Vin Diesel to follow the natural inclination of movie casting, team up up with the Rock in a movie and beat up um...I dunno, maybe an evil Leprechaun preying upon a girl's nudist camp or something. Yeah, that sounds like it would work. Sean Astin could show up for comedic relief.
