Magister’s Wand (inspired by the wands in Harry Potter, obviously)
Magister’s wands come in various shapes and sizes, but all are potent aids to the arcane spellcaster. The term ‘magister’s wand’ is something of a misnomer, though. Magister’s wands function more like rods than spell-storing wands.
A magister’s wand is a wooden stick (though metal, stone, glass or even crystal wands are known to exist) anywhere from 7 to 14 inches long, with a core of some highly magical substance (such as unicorn tail hair or dragon heartstring) melded into the wood (or metal, stone or whatever). Longer (staff-shaped or scepter-shaped) or shorter (token or totem-shaped) wands are well documented. While the mundane functions of the wands may vary by the wand’s shape, the shape of the wand has no effect on its magical functions.
In any case, each wand is fitted to an individual spellcaster, and each is totally unique. Some are plain and unadorned, while others are covered with elaborate runes and precious gems. The adornments on a wand may provide some insight on the temperament (or at least the vanity) of the wielder, but has nothing at all to do with the skill and power level of the wand or its wielder.
A magister’s wand aids the arcane caster by helping him focus and direct magical energy. Each +1 enhancement bonus on the wand adds a +1 bonus to the wielders ranged touch attack rolls to aim spells (including ray spells, various elemental orbs, fireball, meteor swarm etc), and to his touch attack rolls to deliver touch spells when he is wielding the wand. Each +1 bonus also adds a +1 bonus to the wielder’s caster level checks to overcome the targets spell resistance when casting spells through the wand (i.e. when casting any spell that requires a ranged touch attack or a touch attack). ‘Masterwork’ wands, that is to say, wands with no magical enhancement, add a +1 masterwork bonus to touch attacks that does not stack with the bonus gained due to magical enhancement (just like with masterwork weapons). Masterwork wands do not add any bonuses to ranged attack rolls or to overcome spell resistance. All wands must be at least masterwork quality to be called as such – a non-masterwork ‘wand’ is just a wooden stick.
In game terms, a magister’s wand is treated as a weapon for adding enhancements. It is more difficult to enchant a wand than to craft a weapon, so wands cost double the price of a normal weapon. That is to say, the market price of a wand equals:
Bonus squared x 4000 gp, plus any extra gp due to special functions or decorations, plus 600 gp for the masterwork component.
For example, a +2 frost wand would cost 36000 gp; a +1 ghost touch wand costs 16000 gp and so on.
A magister’s wand is treated as a ranged weapon for the purpose of determining what enhancements may be placed upon it. Any bonus damage (flaming, frost etc.) or special effects only applies when delivering ray spells or touch spells (DMs might want to include elemental orbs as a special case, but by the rules they are not ray spells). A +1 flaming wand may help its wielder aim his fireball, but the flaming quality of the wand does not add +1d6 damage to the fireball’s damage. Nor can he get +1d6 fire damage to each of a scorching ray spell’s light beams. Nor would a +4 ghost-touch wand negate the 50% chance for an incorporeal creature to ignore all damage from a meteor swarm. He does, however, receive a +1 bonus to ranged touch attack rolls and to caster level checks to overcome spell resistance with all three spells.
Magister’s wands may be also called Warlock’s Rods, Mages’ Scepters, Witches’ Wands or any of three dozen or more names. The name is of no real importance; the enchantments are basically identical.
Caster Level 9th+, Prerequisites: Craft Rod, creator must be at least 9th level.

Battlemage’s Boon
This enchantment allows the wielder of the wand to draw charges from the wand to increase the damage his spells deal. Only ray spells or touch spells can benefit from the enhancement (so a disintegrate could benefit, but a fireball could not). Each charge expended deals bonus damage to the target (or heals additional HP, if the spell in question is a cure spell) according to the table below. The damage is of the same type as the spell in question. If the spell deals ability damage (or ability penalty), the damage type is of negative energy. A warlock’s eldritch blast is a special case. An eldritch blast is always considered a ray spell for purposes of increasing damage even if the warlock uses a blast shape invocation to change it into an area effect invocation.
This enchantment can be made to draw from its own pool of charges, or from a shared pool with stored spells. If it draws from it’s own pool, add +20000 to the wand’s price. If it draws from a common pool (similar to a staff), treat the Battlemage’s Boon as a 4th level spell.
