New Matrix Reloaded trailer!

Unfortunately, I don't see how they can do these new Matrix movies without ignoring at least some of the ending of the last movie. Same thing for Terminator 3, though.

Are you referring to the demise of Agent Smith? I think his return is going to be very easy to explain. :) (They probably just restored him from a tape backup.)

I'll probably see the movie, but I have to say that the slow motion kung-fu/dodge-bullets-in-mid-air/run-up-wall is just not doing it for me much. It's starting to creep into other movies, too, and runs the risk of becoming cliched VERY quickly.

Still, I liked Matrix - in part because I love Larry Fishburne, and because it was a good story. We'll see if the sequels can live up to the original - which is going to be hard to do.

Try to keep in mind that the first movie was just the origin story.
I know it is an origin story, but that is no excuse. They wasted the last 3rd of the movie.

The Matrix was not a great movie. It had some great effects and a really cool twist early on. But that's it.

edit: That being said, I was entertained by it. But it was what it was.

I think it's just the pervasive Hollywood "Me too!" syndrome you're seeing. The Matrix comes out with these unusual camera techniques, slow-mo shots, and off the wall martial arts action and it's a huge hit. Now, every moviemaker is doing a big-budget action flick that incorporates this style of filming into the moive. Just a simple matter of seeing something that worked really well and using it again. And again. And again. And again. And... okay, I think you get the idea. :D

BTW, it's Laurence Fishburne, not Larry. ;)

So what were you expecting/wishing it to be? After all it's just an action movie that serves as the origin story of a modern superhero and it does that well. I suspect we'll get more about the world in the next two movies, and we'd better, but that wouldn't have fit in the first movie nor does it really belong in it.

As it was set up in the beginning, it raised the bar beyond a simple action film. The last 1/3 did not hold true to what they set it up to be. The Neo character wasn't developed that well. His relationship with Trinity and the whole love aspect was cheesy and strained at best. They solved the earlier aspects of the plot with a shoot-em-up at the end that basically had no payoff.

3 movies are not needed to tell a good story. I am dissappointed by the Matrix because of how well the rest of the movie was done. It was a very entertaining blend of concept, visuals and action. Judging it as a singular movie is fair because it had plenty of time to do more. It just choose not to. I am sick of movies that set things up and the end that are decided by a fistfight/shootout between good and evil the decides simply who "wins." They should aim higher like their great comicbook superhero counterparts.

It doesn't take away the fact that I liked it and am looking forward to the sequels. I was entertained, but for what they gave me I wanted more. I am interested to see if the sequels deliver what the first movie didn't.

You don't have to agree with me, but that's the way I feel about the movie every time I have seen it.

I'm with Doc Midnight! Wowsers! Awesome!

I am such a kid when it comes to stuff like this, that just looked amazing. Multiple Agent Smith's vs Neo...oh yes.
